Dont want an argument but...

i'm lucky to have permission and open minded enough to take lads out that i find "ok".

untill now only one has tried to "get on my permission" (cheeky f**k) and so i consider myself lucky.

you have to be carefull and may regret taking someone out but its part of the sport i think, some of the lads i go with have their own perm'. some don't but i would like to think they would have enough respect for me not to try going behind my back.

those who have nowhere to go i try to help get some land(i had some perm' about 3/4 of an hour away which i told a lad to go and see the farmer as i rarely go there, about 500 acres of decent rabbit, pigeon and fox)

its frustrating not being able to get on to land(legally)i know

if the lads are rabbiting with lurchers and not kicking the arse out of it i don't see a real problem with it(not out every night),most would barely notice if they behave as a "proper poacher" should taking game, vermin without being detected(respect fences, gates, livestock etc).

i hope you all have full bags and quick feet when needed

p.s. this is not an invitation :tongue2:

Sully the reason the farmers slam the door in your face is because they have had so meany people who think the land is theres. Farmers get a harsh deal in certain areas, and i know this because i work

Excellent advice Hunter, I have 100% taken it on board, I dont want to come across as a saint but i deffo wouldnt loose it when I get it, there's alot of positivity and I feeled buoyed by it all, to h

I 100% agree with you Giro, I'll be honest with you.....I am and always have been frightened to death of my beloved dog having an accident whilst out, see my Lexy is predominantly a loved pet, but she like Lora (on my addy) is my hunting companion, and the thought that Im in the middle of a field, not knowing which way to turn with a injured dog, fills me with dred, thats why over the last 2 Years I have been persueing my own bit of "paradise", I really think that there is a massive devide between the landrover driving, shotgun weilding (nothing wrong with shooting) farmer and little old me and Lexy.

Born Hunter, it'snot the done thing round here mate, honestly, If I was a lil closer to to Derbyshire, Chatsworth etc, I would have been asking to beat alomng time ago, re ferrets, Ive asked, I nearly bought a job lot of ferriting gear, but what comes first...the ferret or the permission ??? no permission means I dont need a ferret, so therefore, I'd be doing what I hate other people doing, buying an animal which isnt needed, Im not the most eloquent of people,I hope Im not coming across as a squealing mardy git, bit to say I feel aggrieved is an understatement,

Thanks for your advice tho

Sully if you aint got a ferret theres no point asking for permission. If you HAVE got a ferret you can use it on "the other side of the fence" for as long as you want AND you can ask permission here and there. If your driving past a field and see loads of rabbits out there you can pop into the farm and ask. If they say no at least youve tried. And sooner or later someone will say yes. And then all you gotta do is hit the rabbits hard then keep the numbers down and you will find yourself getting referals. Once youve got the permission, make the farmer happy for a few weeks 1st then during conversation mention the lurcher and see what he sais.

took me a long time to gain the trust of my local landowners!! my first bit of permission was at a friends stables for ferreting! the more i went the more people who visited the stables were intrested in me going round and doing the ground round there houses!! i did it even though it was tiny!! but it was how i gained more and more permission eventually getting farms and random fields dotted around i have to travel through 5 fields just to get to one as theres no other route!! i can assure you the lamps allways on and off all the way there ;) go for the smaller stuff that people wouldnt normally pay an intrest in and it could go the same way for you as it did for me!!!

Hello Waidman, I didnt post to get asked out, and if Im honest, there is nothing I would like more than for there to be one man and my dog, I dont go for 3 or 4 fella's with there dogs walking across fields decimating the population, we have to look after the countryside, treat it with respect, so that my children and my childrens children can enjoy fields sports, while on about my children, there is nothing I would of loved more than to have taken my eldest boy (12) out for a nights lamping, as my grandad did when I was 7, but like has already been said, your forever listening out for every noise, every flick of light and looking over your shoulder.....no place to share a love of field sports is it !

Hi all, hope that your all well,

Right im going to have a moan about permission, time after time ive been sneered at when I ve mentioned that in 20 Years of working dogs Ive only had permission for 2 Years (golf course) before I get hung, I have tried everything, from phone calls to letters, e-mails to knocking on doors, but when you hear "look lad we have had 3 generations of the same family working our land", what chance have I got !!! so what we saying, no permission = hang up my dog lead ? I have it in my blood, my father my fathers father, but alas that was in the day, when a fella walking across a field with a rabbit in his hand didnt mean a visit by the aircops! so you lucky fella's with millions of acre's of permission spare a thought for those who, love the sport as much as anyone but due to circumstances have to tread on the wrong side of the fence, Thanks for reading

By some ferrets or start beating, all of my permissions has come through ferreting or beating. Just gain trust and respect before mentioning lurchers. Most landowners/keepers are quite happy for you to do some ferreting, its your foot in the door.

mate know how you feel i only started getting permission 18 months ago now got 1000's of acres. Like said above the hardest is getting your foot through the door start of small like he said start with ferreting then work up once he knows your trust worthy you'l have no limitations. Look for large arable farmers there the best ones who encourage people to keep rabbit numbers down my one farm is 4000 acres alone only got that 2 weeks ago by doing the same. Livestock farmers are normally always most touchy but once you got permission and shown your face its easy to get the neighbours as well

i was in no way implying that you were asking to be taken out bud.

i was merely saying that i sympathize fully with what you are saying, and due to that i try to take lads out who i know and trust, some will invite me to their perm' some can't.

good luck in getting some land for the little one

I can understand your predicament as i can remember being only about nine and my father showing me one of the monuments on the nearby estate [bANNED TEXT] 2 keepers and a police dog handler approached us i was absouloutly terrified [bANNED TEXT] the headkeeper realised we were doing no harm he was ok but the younger keeper started efin and blinding till my father put him in his place as well as the headkeeper and the copper whos dog was going ballistic

all rounded on the gobshite young keeper years later i poached this estate did i feel guilty did i feckthumbs.gif

you think you got a problem geting permision ,you should try being me .i have been looking for over 36years and still have not got any ,mind you i start to walk towards the farms to ask but they are all in bed when i go ,so i dont like to wake them up by knocking on the door .so i just pretend they said  and carry on lamping .

Sully the reason the farmers slam the door in your face is because they have had so meany people who think the land is theres. Farmers get a harsh deal in certain areas, and i know this because i work on a farm part time.

How would you feel if you couldnt leave your diesel tank unlocked, cant leave tractors in field, come to a field to find someone has stolen your gates and water troughs etc.

I remember one night working late when the local waste of spece stopped in to ask for a tow out a feld. (He was in one of OUR fields heding towards the digger to empty it). Well you can immagine what happened.

In summary, DONT jump in with both feet first and ask for lurcher work, thats a big no no. Try and get in some other way (ferreting, moles, pigeons )etc.

I think you sound like a genuine bloke, the kind this sport really needs. Do your best pal, and try not to tarnich the name by thinking as others do that it is there right to go where they please and take what they want.

Boils my piss to see some peoples attitude these days.

Nothing better than towny, chavvy little pricks that should do the legwork before bamming someone off.

Keep trying mate, theres nothing better than having pleanty of ground thats all legit. Takes the heat off you working your dogs.

Cheers FTB

Hi Fella's Killum with chrisps, Thanks for your advice, Ive just been cautious, like I say, if I cant get permission for ferriting what do I do with the ferret, but it's a great point you raise, Cooper, trust me, size doesnt matter !!! I have spoken to a local 8 hole golf course, sort of pitch and put type thing, I know that they have had there greens dug up, but because of the stigma attached to field sports, they told me that the rabbits dont cause them a problem, it's interesting to see that im not being lambasted for saying that I have jumped the fence so to speak, I thought I was in tor a rocky ride

Theirs no big deal as long as no damage or theft of other things besides rabbits is donethumbs.gif
