Sully 3
Hi all, hope that your all well, Right im going to have a moan about permission, time after time ive been sneered at when I ve mentioned that in 20 Years of working dogs Ive only had permission for 2 Years (golf course) before I get hung, I have tried everything, from phone calls to letters, e-mails to knocking on doors, but when you hear "look lad we have had 3 generations of the same family working our land", what chance have I got !!! so what we saying, no permission = hang up my dog lead ? I have it in my blood, my father my fathers father, but alas that was in the day, when a fella walking across a field with a rabbit in his hand didnt mean a visit by the aircops! so you lucky fella's with millions of acre's of permission spare a thought for those who, love the sport as much as anyone but due to circumstances have to tread on the wrong side of the fence, Thanks for reading ATB Craig. If you're doing no harm, not wrecking about or wiping out game, it's not what I would consider wrong. Quote Link to post

By some ferrets or start beating, all of my permissions has come through ferreting or beating. Just gain trust and respect before mentioning lurchers. Most landowners/keepers are quite happy for you to do some ferreting, its your foot in the door. Quote Link to post

Sully 3
While in my work clothes I knocked on a farm house door, a very dear friend of mine and my late dad's over a glass of bushmills told me that he knew the farm hand at a relavely local farm, he said that there would be a chance albeit slight of getting a bit of lamping (3 fields) I was telling him my plight over a glass of Bushmills, so I went to see if there was any chance, stomach in mouth (I hate asking, tbh I dont really enjoy approaching the door I feel like Im encroaching)well I was amazed by this mans attitude, I went through a pre rehearsed verse and said I would be prepared to help out with things around the farm, to which he told me "NO" and shut the door in my face, I suppose at least he didnt give me any bs, but the harshness of it took me back, maybe surprised in this world of Anti's and pc rollox that people within the county fraternity couldnt understand just a bit. Giro 2,648
I would look further a Field fella... Good grounds worth the travel... Poaching is a means to a end but you canny beat going about your business not looking over your shoulder knocking lamps off eveytime you see a car light... In todays climate a little permission puts you in a better postion is you do get lost in the dark and find your self in someone eles feild by mistake.. Quote Link to post
Sully 3
Born Hunter, it'snot the done thing round here mate, honestly, If I was a lil closer to to Derbyshire, Chatsworth etc, I would have been asking to beat alomng time ago, re ferrets, Ive asked, I nearly bought a job lot of ferriting gear, but what comes first...the ferret or the permission ??? no permission means I dont need a ferret, so therefore, I'd be doing what I hate other people doing, buying an animal which isnt needed, Im not the most eloquent of people,I hope Im not coming across as a squealing mardy git, bit to say I feel aggrieved is an understatement, Thanks for your advice tho Quote Link to post
