Crossing large Cockeral to Bantam hens

Recommended Posts

he could do damage to them saddleing them,

either take him out into another group if you have it,

or pull his neck and obtain a bantam cock pref same breed,

it is your decision however,

if you are really fond of him get him a hen his own size

i would never mix large fowl and bantams.

he has a rhode island red hen with the four bantams. im getting him three more large hens shortly but was just wondering do the large and bantams cross much if kept together. My friend who gave him to me said that his father was a big light sussex rooster and his mother was bantam but he is still bigger than my red hen so he must have taken more of the light sussex genes.

i would split them into 2 groups anyway, not hard to build banty house + run lol

yeara id say il leave them together there dosent seem to be any problems and he seems to be busy with the big hen and not bothering with the bantams. I might use one of the bantams to hatch a few rhode islands eggs...

Will they cross breed or not people? Yes i am lucky to have docile birds

Yes they will Breed.I myself may Cross a Large Light Sussex Cockerel with a Light Sussex Bantam Hen this Year.My Mate Red Dog seen a couple of this type A few years ago and said they turned out Nice Birds. My Favourite Hen that i have is a Cross between a Large light Sussex cock and a Old English Bantam.

She goes Broody at least Three times a Year.As a matter of Fact she is now Sat on 4 Appleyard Duck eggs that i had given me yesterday.

nice one I am hoping one of my bantams will go broody as my friend has offered to give me duck eggs to hatch . is there anyway to encourage them to go broody. does putting golfballs in the nest work?

If your Bantams are going to go Broody they will do in their own time.By all means try Golf balls in the Nest, but i've never had to encourage any of mine to go Broody.4 yrs ago i Had 7 Broody Bantams sitting all at once. Not all Bantams will go Broody though.Good Luck.
