norfolk lurcher

Aubry fryer was another name years ago associated with this type of lurcher but the chapter he wrote in the hunters yearbook 1981 dosent seem to make sence as he claims his family had these dogs 130 years ago and claims they were bred from smithfeild collieshmm.gif

ye thtas a name from the past aubrey fryer , but more to the piont saw mick douglas type and other types simliar

I heard their was always a waiting list for both pups out of their dogs i can vaguley remember fryer advertiseing in the old exchange & mart The only one i saw of m.douglas turned out to be a bit of a yipper this i believe she passed on to her pups as i had one and 4 other mates and they all did the same but they could still catch them old haresthumbs.gif

back then alot of lurcheres were bought and sold localy at the horse fairs aug 6 at musselburgh , trotting day dogs men travelers all sorts, a few of these wheaton types were left over and bought etc , and afew from echange and mart , used to wonder as a kid what was a staghound cross as i had read a stag hound a big foxhound thougth ungainly animals etc ,

nice dogs but nothing like the early norfolk type ive saw . who were straw coulor and lite fawn , not saw one for years , they were lite built for running and floated across the ground deerhoundy fashion, all the best

i remember aubrey fryer advertiseing in the exchange and mart with these dogs back in the middle seventies . i saw a little bitch run out of his stuff on the light a few times she was a cracking little bitch on the the light would carry back has quick has she went up the light only about 22 to 23 rough coated would do her twenties no problem that was 1976 . :good:

these lurchers have been line breed for years now in the last 15 years the introduction of bull blood has give them extra gear but they are good allrounders i use mine for huntig foxes on the vast mountains of wales

nice photos :)could a dog similar to these be produce by doing beddy greyhound x saluki greyhound ? or beddy whippet x saluki grey ? im proberbly wrong but i just thawt id ask ,, i have no lurchers but im learning as much about them as i can ready for the day i do get 1 :)
