Dan Edwards 1,134
you dont need a big dog to do them as long as the dog has got heart it will do them. my mate had a blue dog 20inch seen it do 4 and 5 in a night but it did take some stick. then got a big dog called stripes and that didnt do them as well. atb mike I dont disagree with you much but I do know that heart and will are great but if they aint got the tools, they just dont have the tools. A 20 inch dog may do fox over where yall are at on the lamp but over here daytime, a fox would just laugh at a 20 inch dog tryin to catch it let alone kill it. 4 or 5 in a lifetime would most likely be out the question let alone 4 or 5 a day and I also dont think size plays much part in how much stick a dog takes. A throat dog is a throat dog no matter the size or breed and if they aint throat dogs then they aint proper huntin dogs. Dont get me wrong, I have owned and do own dogs that aint straight throat dogs but either way it aint right. Quote Link to post

dave a 24
alright all. i was having a think and heard of small dogs taking fox pre ban but could they do it on a regular basis, and what size would you consider to take foxes often.or is size a issue after all or do u think they take to much punishment after a while doing it.atb suffolkpoacher, have anyone had small dogs which TOOK them regular? you cant measure a dogs ability to take foxes in inches to the shoulder.its all about breeding and heart,i've seen lots of big tall dogs jack foxes.still though a small size wheaten or bull bred lurcher can often be caught for speed even though it has no fear of game. He didnt tackle the 1st 4 foxes, he let them go .Then one night he got one and shook the shit out of it. Then from that day he killed alot of foxes,he would knock them down , then right on the throat . even if he took some stick, he liked them more than rabbits, he was a fecker for them+cats get the right colliexgrey and they are spot on for fox job Quote Link to post

I assume alot of greyhound a little deerhound here or there years and years ago and maybe even some bulldog but an extremely small portion I would say. Just best to best partner. Quote Link to post
