the bitch is 11month and ive had her a few month ive just been letin her range a bit and then calling her back for a bit of a play

ive tried geting her to recall to the whistle absolotley no joy she just keeping rangeing and mooching

and ive tried tareing after her and giveing her a telling off

i was considering a tracking lead but the thing is she is great on the lead already walks to heal all the time and then you let her off she dose her useual so i was thinking she will know she is on the lead and then disregards all she did on it and go back to her useual

Try takeing her out during the off season into the fields and not hunt, just work on her manners, shes switched on to hunt mode once she gets into a field, you need to calm her down and start from there..best of luck with her bud..

Get her on a long cord, call her, haul her in and praise well. Only let her off in places you can get her back without calling her, where you can catch her as she goes past. The proplem is usually, that you've trained her not to come to recall by using it in situations where you can't make her obey . Every time you call her and she doesn't come, you are in fact training her not to. Useing this method for a week or two will lead her to believe that when you call she has no choice. In the meantime, when the dogs loose, in an emergency, don't recall , run to the dog.To train to the whistle, give the whistle command before your usual command, eventually, on hearing the whistle the dog will anticipate the verbal command and react without it. From then on you can use either.

treats are for dogs who havent bonded with the owner/handler, the only way is to spend time with the dog, you will only ever get out what you put in, if you dont teach them they wont know. Its not the dogs fault its the handler.

never trained my dogs as such for recall its just a natural process that goes on from a pup but i live in the sticks so im only ever in a feild. they learn to stay close. and when pups i call there name and throw a whistle in at end when they come back bit of fuss. gradually reducing down to just a whistle. but if they dont listen i just walk in opposite dirrection they soon clock on. this works for me but each dog is different. also found treats can work but some dogs come treat dependant and after while no treat no listening atb jamie

I think going back to basics in your garden or other enclosed area sit stay lay ect once she sits on command and stays recall will come easily jmo.

That method only works on the basis, that if you've made the dog stay away from you, it naturally wants to come. It doesn't train the dog to come over long distances when it doesn't want to. It's also bad practice to recall from a stay position during training, it easily leads to an unsteady stay.Good practice is to go to the dog, touch and release the dog. best practice in the field is to, whenever possable send the dog on from the stay before recall.Only recall from the stay when you have to.

some times lurchers do have bad recall if there not used to having the space often to run. as running to them is like a drug. maybe its a case that to her/he that on a lead is no fun and then all of a sudden its freedom if this is the case maybe just getting her out more for free running might bring her in as she'l learn shes does get the freedom so she doesnt have to push to get more running and hunting . more city reared lurchers are this way or lurcher left in kennels to long, that dont have the facility to get them running every day if not out hunting. hope my posts help atb jamie
