lagunas are kc reg ped whippets bred by the late dorit makay, and now by her daughter lilah, laguna whippets have been raced and coursed and shown all over the world and as far as whippets go due to the laguna, kennel achievements particularly in the coursing field and the show ring, they are are a name which is known world wide, within whippet circles,Perhaps the most remarkable of her many champions was a brindle and white whippet, Champion Laguna Ligonier, born in 1960. Between 1962 and 1972 no fewer than 80 litters sired by this dog were registered with the Kennel Club, and from these came 11 United Kingdom champions.Dorrit McKay was also passionately interested in coursing, and would sometimes present the same dogs at shows and races, sometimes on successive days. This was possible because she bred whippets which were as notable for speed and stamina as for elegance.

sooty sam was a black kc reg ped whippet dog, bought in and owned by mike brown he had a good percentage of laguna blood in his pedigree, though he also had martinsell, nimrodel and shalfleet, in his pedigree, he was born in august 1991 which is around 20 years ago,

Good post cocker  Had a laguna back in the early 60s, bred by Dr Hughes from Bolsover, Nr Chesterfield, I only used him for working, it took him until he was 2 yrs before he showed any interest in the bunnies, then when the penny dropped, he was a A1 rabbiting dog, he stood 23" tts.

I eventually but him over a leggy staff x norwich terrier, and the offspring were bril ferreting dogs

So mike browns whippets are mainly line bed down from sooty Sam which were originally bred from laguna, and if I'm right from previous posts his line are fairly level and produce a good majority of workers

So leads me to the next question are his line pure whippets or grew xs are they kc or non ped and is that particular line used in the racing events talked about earlier

Very informative post this , it's nice to learn of people with a knowledge rather than the useall bullshit and egomania that follows a good thread

hi bull

mikes line are definatley fairly level, (or they were the last time i saw them) and they definatley produce a good majority of workers, as i think that is the reason most of his pups are sold, they go to people who are actually looking for a working whippet,

his line are pure whippet,s, pedigree, and kc registered, some of mikes whippets will be used for racing and lure coursing, although the non ped grews mentioned earlier are more renowned in whippet racing, and usually excel (although theres no reason you couldn't race one of mikes whippets),

Just got back from a grand day out watching these little flyers running at Cambois Greyhound track. The sun was shining, even though it was a bit nippy, but the track was perfect. Not a big turn out of dogs, but some excellant racing. One dog caught my eye, Mazuma, 31lb; he did a time of 15.10, and speaking to one of the Greyhound guys there, he assured me this is faster than most Greys do around this track !! Had a good craic with a lot of peope, and great to see Sowhat, (Jeff), and have a yarn with him. I was also amazed to see a little bitch, 26lb, that is around 7/8th Greyhound !! Good luck to these dogs, if they make the wheight limit, then run them !!

Cheers.
