thinking of getting a ferret

Recommended Posts

If I were you I would get a couple as they are generally very sociable animals and love to play.

Make sure the hutch you have is big enough and give them things to play in and with.

As for biting handle them as much as you can more so once they have a full belly as the tendancy to bit will be less.

I have never had ferrets that have bitten! [big statement that eh] mine are handled by all the family from a very eary age.

At the end of the day you will get out of them what you put in. Be kind to them and they will be kind to you!

Good luck and enjoy.

ps your bound to get lots of other info

Hi mate,

I was in the same position as you this time last year, i got mine in july, with no previous experience whats so ever. i only wish i had two now, but being new i stuck to just the one.

As a kit he did bite alot, but with the use of jiff lemon juice on my hands :D and plenty of handling, he is now great and a bundle of fun.

Going to get two more to join him

Hope this helps

like the man said lots and lots of time spent with them, young or old, it will pay you back in time and it will become good fun, work or pet. that way if he doesn't work very well they will become good pets for you or someone else

good luck in your search mate

All mine are rescues, always, some are biters some aren't but they all come round in the end, it's gentle handling that makes a good ferret...forget this crap about slapping them if they bite. The Jiff lemon juice idea is a good'un :clapper: If I was a beginner again I'd get myself a book, they can't answer all the questions but they do help .

I'll second whats said above and add - FERRETONE - great invention - it's a substance they go wild for. I put some on my fingers and let them lick it off they soon love your hands in a good way. Also very handy for collaring them up, injecting them etc
