Thanks i did a YTS placement with them 17yrs ago.is ken humphries still running the business? i liked the course but the head keeper was a horrible twat,dead now though what they paying you? is it live in? there was 2 of us young lads at the time.we were getting £17 a week spending money both living in a 1 berth caravan and fed salad nearly every day! pitmanuk 2 Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Share Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) bed news i just phoned them and they told me all funding to gamekeeping courses have been pulled. so everywhere is wales has stopped doing the course. so next plan. new course. any suggestions anyone? has to be within 45 min drive (ish) from a town or city as my misses will have to work. shes all up for moving anywhere in the country as this is what i have always wanted to do. shes really good like that. i want to specialise in vermin control and habitat management. so far ive applied for: -Bishop Burton College -Newton Rigg -myerscough college Edited March 18, 2010 by pitmanuk Quote Link to post

gossy 3 Posted March 21, 2010 Report Share Posted March 21, 2010 iam at sparsholt at the moment its very good worth looking into. also 10 minutes from winchester. atb gossy Sorry to hijack the thread but what course you doing, are you living in? whats the food like and how easy is it to live in cost effectively relating to the course ( needing to take food on trips or clothes etc?) iam doing the nd in game and wildlife management and its brilliant! i do live in and you get given a meal card which has 250 quid on it. the food isnt great but it is edible. with regards to cost effectiveness of the college you can put food for your practicals on your meal card or get it from the shop so [bANNED TEXT] choice and clothes u just need a copule of pairs of work clothes and metal toe caps so that aint bad. if u were gettin ema you could probably be making money if u were not silly thats how cost effective it is. atb gossy Quote Link to post

I've worked with lads that have been to both Newton Rigg and Sparsholt and found the lads from newton rigg were better prepared for work and the "real world". The big advantage in my eyes is you will get more experience with Grouse keepering as well as low ground stuff if you go to Newton Rigg, keeps your options open a bit more. lilvixen's OH Quote Link to post
atchy =] 2 Posted March 30, 2010 Report Share Posted March 30, 2010 Netwon rigg is the one my man i live in sunderland and made a rash decision to go to myerscough the tutor is ill equipt and im learning my trade from keepers on indsutry experience and other class mates i wish i had gone to newton rigg i might have been able to keep my labb there ........ at scough its terrible where basically doing manual labour for high fly collect eggs !
