is that this years.? great, i`ve only seen one could`nt catch her but assume its a queen startin of a new brood.badgers keep there numbers down round here :censored: x

 

I have seen at least half dozon today flitting about & honey bees .. i cant honestly remember what time last year i was seeing them but it wasnt this early .. theres only the crocus out in the woods at the moment so not much for them to go on

The bumbles seem late around here but it was great to see the honey bees out in force at the first sign of sunshine . And you are right kay ,the crocuses (should that be crocii?) were really buzzing .

 

i think its is crocii when theres more than one .. someone told me at work today thats what safron is crocus pollen

Very educational ,bit like fungii or hippopotamii. Don't suppose the bees care about such things :thumbs: as long as they bag-up on saffron .Or in the case of the one in your neat little picture get the stuff all over her head !

I love bees there so hardworking & give me hours of plessure watching them & i love honey as well .. really love this time of year .. its like everythings waking up slowly & i keep looking back to last years pics so i know what to look for

 

I just hope the toads mate this time theres been a herron hanging about so i dont think it will long :laugh:

Bumble Bees have been around for a couple of weeks now, flying on the sunnier days. These are queens that have hibernated & are ready to start new colonies. Saw some Honey Bees last week too.

Yours looks like Bombus terrestris or lucorum - difficult to separate from a photo.
