purse nets

I think the stuff you're talking about is jute, it looks very similar to hemp .

If you're new to net making then it's good stuff to practise on because it's cheap so it don't matter too much when you :censored: things up :D

But I don't think it's strong enough as a general net making material and I've used it in the garden for tieing plants up etc. and found it rots very quickly.

I think waidmann has got it about right, "the better the twine the better the net"

I think you would be as well making your nets out of garden twine try wetting it let it dry then pull it and see if it snaps ,as its very hard to get proper hemp these days as its mostly flax sold as hemp

The garden twine sold as hemp is actually Jute. Its about three times the thickness of good hemp and doesn't knit very well at all.

The nets you end up with are unuseable so what looks like good value is a waste of money. Bridport nets are selling a poly/linen twine which is very nice. It handles just like hemp. You do need to watch what you buy over the net as decent hemp twine is like hens teeth mate.

Good advice, jute is pretty crap for nets, it doesn't last either. Buy good it saves money in time.
