I've been a townie for most of my 40 odd years but this does not make me or millions of others an anti it is just a way of life and very few support the ban. I personally don't know any.   My wife

Yer, I woul;d agree there is a 'boom' on at the min, thing is, I (and older folks) have seen it before, in the late 's. They'll come and go, few will stick at it, for most it'll be a fad. Damage

It's always nice to see new folk keen on what we love . . . . but looking bout recently there seem to be A LOT of REAL idiots wandering about the countryside at night with lurchers . . . since the ban the number of people into running hare, fox and deer has suspiciously shot right up . . . . . .

as the iceman says.if the young ones take someone with them ho nos what there doing then that's OK.but some lads will put their dogs onto anything that moves.[such as cats ]and its lads like that are getting lurcher men a bad name

I have just got into it about a year and a half ago. I have got two lurchers and I have every intention of doing things properly, bar poaching as it is imposible to get permission. I would never get rid of a dog unless it didn't chase and in that case I would find it a good pet home. My dogs will be with me untill they die.

Damage will be done, it always follows but it'll pass, just weather the storm.

BUT what I will say, is for the novices who have joined this forum, or those that YOU know in the 'real world', it's up to those that have been at it a while (us old hands) to ensure we give correct information, offer sound advice, try to both help them be less ignorant and OUR chosen life more secure. ;)

that proves the ban is not taken seriously then does it not ,and that is the way it should be looked upon in my eyes .

its good to see younger people getting into the sport as the iceman says it better than them standing about getin into shit but not all will stick at the hunting game for most its just a vase the go through :boogie:and a majority are muppets :icon_eek: who have no respect for there quarry :wallbash: but fair play to the young lads that stick at it keep at it lads

Possibly in many cases and yes thats great, although it should be taken seriously, totally and utterly ignored yes. . . . but still taken seriously. Anything that could result in loss of dogs, is serious in my eyes. But to be honest it's not a good thing having folk out with dogs who only got into it cos they saw it on the T.V and it makes them feel somehow 'hardcore' and 'wild' to hunt illegal game and dump it.

I know thats a bit of a generalisation and i know what you guys get up to (partly)and that you certalinly make use of what game you take so no personal offence intended.

alright lads/lasses as alot of the older generation of hunters have said and even ive noticed more and more people are getting involved in the sport of running dogs. what effects good or bad to people think of this and with the expansion do you think the government can hold the bans down due to more and more people being pro hunt rather than anti. and do you feel that most anti's are typical city folk who've never seen a field in there life cheers lads/lasses

it seems that now its banned everyone wants to hunt,in 30years of hunting with lurchers never known so many getting into it or so many dogs and puppys for sale,is it the internet thats made it popular, when pit bulls came over they were kept by dogmen then the ban and every tracksuit cladd chav had to have one!!!!now the bullx is the latest penus extention lol

I have been told in certain parts of the country more young uns are getting into the dogs more than likely due to the high unemployment in some ereas it was same in the 80s i wish i had a fiver for all them i have seen come and go in over 30years.I tend to find more younguns are going into the shooting side of country pastimes in this area and sadley a few of the young ones have gone streight for bull crosses and feild driveing obviousley for the adrenelin buzz.sad.gif

It's great that more people are finding an interest in country pursuits. Yes there seems a lot of youngsters that are taking an interest to this sport, i think most of us started off young.

The difference is when i started off there was respect, honesty and trust. Nowadays there is none of it!

More and more people are trying to make a quick buck by producing rubbish dogs bred by all sorts of bloodlines, giving pups away, dumping them, re homeing because the dog cant catch a hare, or a rabbit at 3 months old.... :whistling:

People are using these dogs as weapons, not a tool of the trade.

Anyway, the ban doesn't help, cannot be policed correctly, which then makes certain people roam around the countryside running riot, shooting and killing everything that moves ect......

This is where it all falls apart. We cannot be trusted, so the punishment will be the ban will never be lifted. The damage is done. Those of us who are lucky to have land can still enjoy what we have left, and those who dont will continue to poach and try and stay lucky.

Its a great shame as we all know, but we can only hope and have faith for a better future for our sport, and even more so the UK.

:victory:

Or we could try taking out a few youngsters and showing them the ropes. :whistling:

Without guidence and teaching a young aspiring hunter could easily become a very bad advert for hunting, you only have to flick through a few threads on here to see the results.

lads 50+yrs like myself will probably not see it as a good thing, where once we could go about our daily walks without a glance from people not really knowing what a lurcher was,it now appear's everybody knows exactly what its all about. The standard of lurcher's and pups has deteriorated with the putting together of any two lurcher's that might win a show, rather than two tested worker's being bred off to replace an ageing dog, then we wonder why there is so much sh*te about.I personally cannot see what putting large amounts of bull has added to the working scene that we didn't already have, other than making them slower and more awkward, they also look heavier more aggressive dogs,so making you stand out,not fade into the background, they scar up easier with the smooth coats, unlike the longer coated traditional style lurcher.Round where I live we have gangs of young kids roaming about, sometimes 6-8 strong doing whatever they please as most don't live around there, assaulting and threatening farmer's etc when asked what they're doing.the more popular it has become, the more legislation has followed right behind it,so no I don't think it has been good to have gained so many new follower's.A lot of the newcomer's have found lurcher's later on in their twenties and are not countryfolk at all,it is just something to boast and brag about like a new toy and see killing large number's of anything as the way its done, without any care or respect for seasons or quarry,I wait for the day when they move on to another hobby or pastime and leave the decent lads and lasses to get on with it.I welcome any decent person into this way of life of our's that seems genuine,I have taken two different lads out this week from this site that I never knew before and both seem good people willing to learn, not proffessing to know it all and genuine care for their animals and the countryside in general,if all newcomer's were like these lads our way of life would be safe, instead I think we can only look forward to more legislation, atb, wirralman

didnt take long for bullx to be brought up and slagged off ,really getting to me some people on this site only been a meember just over a year and its changed a lot, some people seem scared of change but bullx are here to stay and for good reasons
