alright lads/lasses as alot of the older generation of hunters have said and even ive noticed more and more people are getting involved in the sport of running dogs. what effects good or bad to people think of this and with the expansion do you think the government can hold the bans down due to more and more people being pro hunt rather than anti. and do you feel that most anti's are typical city folk who've never seen a field in there life cheers lads/lasses

I've been a townie for most of my 40 odd years but this does not make me or millions of others an anti it is just a way of life and very few support the ban. I personally don't know any.   My wife

Yer, I woul;d agree there is a 'boom' on at the min, thing is, I (and older folks) have seen it before, in the late 's. They'll come and go, few will stick at it, for most it'll be a fad. Damage

i see more and more entering into running dogs who are without proper guidance on respecting land and quarry as a major problem and adding more flame to the fire!! not all as im sure there are novices with the general common sense needed to work dogs and with guidance!!

but i know of lads getting these dogs as they think its a good idea at the time and they have fantasised about hunting for years who are an absolute menace and do more harm than good!!

yes i belive anties are city folk who have no idea whatsoever about the effects these animals they fight so passionatly to protect have on the contryside!! all the best

I be pleased till see young people coming into the sport as long as people are showing them what too do and not too do.Better then them out drinking knifeing people stealing cars taking drugs etc etc.A ferret and lucher is better then a carryout and the cops at your door

i think its a good thing cause im new to the sport but iv lived in the country side all my life an seen going on but when i got involved i was suprised to find out how many people were in to it round mine as soon as they found out i was in to it i had every talking to me about there dogs ivited to go hunt with them it was like there was a secret underground organization in my village :big_boss: but think its a bad for new people to join like the ones that used to be hanging out with pitbulls on street corners they gave the pitbulls a bad rep if they start haging on the street with lurchers it might give the lurcher a bad rep and the police will give a honest hunter more hasle

It's great that more people are finding an interest in country pursuits. Yes there seems a lot of youngsters that are taking an interest to this sport, i think most of us started off young.

The difference is when i started off there was respect, honesty and trust. Nowadays there is none of it!

More and more people are trying to make a quick buck by producing rubbish dogs bred by all sorts of bloodlines, giving pups away, dumping them, re homeing because the dog cant catch a hare, or a rabbit at 3 months old.... :whistling:

People are using these dogs as weapons, not a tool of the trade.

Anyway, the ban doesn't help, cannot be policed correctly, which then makes certain people roam around the countryside running riot, shooting and killing everything that moves ect......

This is where it all falls apart. We cannot be trusted, so the punishment will be the ban will never be lifted. The damage is done. Those of us who are lucky to have land can still enjoy what we have left, and those who dont will continue to poach and try and stay lucky.

Its a great shame as we all know, but we can only hope and have faith for a better future for our sport, and even more so the UK.

there are always going to be poachers with running dogs out there and always going to be youngsters that cannot get permission and will run their dogs anyway.and who are we to say they cant i always have encouraged anyone new in to the running dog world but to be honest find alot of jealousy and underhandness around whenever trying to bring a newcomer out for the day . with people scared that they will not get enough runs or go back behind their back . which does sometimes happen i know .what i have found is if you are brought up with it the dog game is that you tend to stick with it even if you take a small time out but ones that come in to it late tend to pack in after a while and find something else to do or another interest these are my perceptions over the years anyway.

My wife and I had always aspired to live in the country and when we had children the need became greater. So we moved and now that it’s on our doorstep we love it. My wife has her own horse. I traded playing golf in favour of clay shooting which led me to get a few permissions which bring in rabbit, pigeon and game when in season to the table. It was my shotgun first, and then air rifles and FAC was next until I saw a lurcher at work on one of the fields near a friend’s house and I was hooked. My wife had been on at me for years to get a dog and I had stubbornly always said no so I had to give in slowly and persuade her lurcher was the way forward.

Our dog is only just one and I hope to bring her on for next season, I have taken on board loads of what has been said on this site and others and I admit watching Purdy’s Progress 20 odd times is probably not the best training but I am confident that my dog will replace my shotgun on at least one of my permissions if only because the land owner has just got a lurcher as well to work with mine after seeing her run.

We are now talking of ferrets and I dream of flying a Hawk.

More and more people are despondent with town life just like us their interest in the countryside grows so a dog seems like a good idea and a lurcher or running dog is a great step to get close to the country even if it is not worked in my opinion.

With regard to the ban I strongly opposed it and still do, having personally written numerous letters to No10 and my local party saying how hypocritical they and all supporting MP’s are. Too impose this ban to please so few people to protect a fox or few is, especially hypocritical when they were sending men to war to be killed or to kill others. Their priorities lay in protecting votes not foxes and they are weak to give in. It really winds me up just thinking about it.

We now get rubbish like this http://www.labour4guildford.com/Foxhunting.htm on their web sites. Don’t look if you want to stay calm.

We should hunt MP’s with dogs they are the vermin in this country and they try and get away with it.

Rant over good night.

there is a few guys round my way, prob in their late thirtys, got them selves a couple pups, and are constantly asking me to take them out lamping to see what its all about, they are both complete wasters and are only wanting to play at this game,iv so far,and will continue to put them off, permission to them is prob not in their vocabulary, they are the, pockets loaded up with stella cans and noisey as f**k brigade,so not all new comers to the sport will be desirable type that you would freely help out.

although they are far from anti, they certainly would not give us a good name, infact quite the opposite,my nine year old lad has more hunting ethics about him than these two have put together

:clapper: You are right ,.... :clapper:

I was born into the 'Mouching game',...

I'm in it for the long haul....

Obviously folk come and go,..that is the nature of the beast,.but,..some lads decide early on that the lurcher OR terrier life is for them,.and they generally stick by their dogs through' thick or thin'..

IN comparison,.others will drift in and out of the lifestyle,.getting a new dog,.moving it on,.going for another hobby,..then after a year,.getting another,...etc,.etc...

Sometimes I feel that I have had a wasted life,..but then, I think about the events of last 50 years,...and maybe,.. it was meant to be,..so, Inshallah,... ...I shall hunt until I die  .

Good luck to all the 'young Bucks' coming into the game,...coz, by feck,..they are sure as hell going to need it....

All the best,.and good hunting....regards,.CHALKWARREN... :drink:

lads 50+yrs like myself will probably not see it as a good thing, where once we could go about our daily walks without a glance from people not really knowing what a lurcher was,it now appear's everybody knows exactly what its all about. The standard of lurcher's and pups has deteriorated with the putting together of any two lurcher's that might win a show, rather than two tested worker's being bred off to replace an ageing dog, then we wonder why there is so much sh*te about.I personally cannot see what putting large amounts of bull has added to the working scene that we didn't already have, other than making them slower and more awkward, they also look heavier more aggressive dogs,so making you stand out,not fade into the background, they scar up easier with the smooth coats, unlike the longer coated traditional style lurcher.Round where I live we have gangs of young kids roaming about, sometimes 6-8 strong doing whatever they please as most don't live around there, assaulting and threatening farmer's etc when asked what they're doing.the more popular it has become, the more legislation has followed right behind it,so no I don't think it has been good to have gained so many new follower's.A lot of the newcomer's have found lurcher's later on in their twenties and are not countryfolk at all,it is just something to boast and brag about like a new toy and see killing large number's of anything as the way its done, without any care or respect for seasons or quarry,I wait for the day when they move on to another hobby or pastime and leave the decent lads and lasses to get on with it.I welcome any decent person into this way of life of our's that seems genuine,I have taken two different lads out this week from this site that I never knew before and both seem good people willing to learn, not proffessing to know it all and genuine care for their animals and the countryside in general,if all newcomer's were like these lads our way of life would be safe, instead I think we can only look forward to more legislation, atb, wirralman
