This close enough? Saw him up a glide about 200mtrs away so i walked up a little closer and sat the dog up, i walked closed and lent on a fence post to take a photo. quick squeak with the lips and it came flying in, he stopped and looked at the dog that was sat 10 mtrs away from me. in the photo the fox is 20 foot from me and still running. it stopped about 6 foot from me but i panicked and took a crap photo. seen a few around in the day and they tend to be more bold it seams. shame i can take the gun on this land in the day, i can only night shoot it. Treacle Trackpad 6
I've had a few on an afternoon but I haven't been out specifically foxing at the time. They tended to be young 'ens as well, came pounding in to the squeek and you have to shout to stop them for the shot Quote Link to post
Hoolit 2
I have called a few during the day in the past ,the strangest one was about 20 years ago I saw a fox slip into the wood of to my right so went to the other side of this narrow wood and squeeked a couple of times out came a cub probably about six months old or so ,i shot it as i walked towards it out pops its pal bang he departs this world to then as i stood looking at the two cubs out comes mum about eighty yards up the same track the cubs were shot on then she met her end very quickly . andyf 144
many people go foxing during the day? if so what times? im guessing early morning and late evening? whats your methods boys and girls? Well: I shoot quite a lot from June through September in daylight during the evenings, I use a Foxpro Fx3 remote control electronic caller set up in a variety of favourite spots, but I also have several mouth blown calls and bulb type squeelers. One of my best spots in on top of a round bale stack which is at the edge of a large field, being about 8 feet above the ground I can see a fair way, also into three more adjacent fields. Also I tend to bait-up the target area with dead rabbits shot with my .22 over a week or so before I try for a Fox, I set the Foxpro up, hung from a hooked steel bar about 2 feet above the ground at the bait-zone, retire to 'base camp' and wait at least 20 minutes before trying calling, I shoot a Ruger No1 22.250 (no moderator) with handloaded 55gr Nosler ballistics. My best result was last year when I shot 3 foxes one after another all in the same field at the same time, I find the best time is about 45 minutes before dark up until I can't see. Clearly when there are lots of full grown cubs about they are more likely to play ball than a more experienced adult, but I get my fair share of both. Also I don't shoot Fox from March to May as there are to many young under ground, I would rather get them later. Incidently the Foxpro is very useful as being remote from me the sound is not drawing the Fox towards me but is usually side on, it was much to expensive but it is VERY good.
