Junior Members Wildfowling Clubs - Age Limit ?

Recommended Posts

Given the nature of wildfowling how do clubs limit/control the activities of junior members ?

Direct Supervision by an adult over 21 until jm is 15 years old ?

What about jm over 15 ?

Shotgun certificate required ?

Are there any liability issues in the event of an accident ?

Any views please

have you done any kind of shooting ??

is there any wildfowling clubs in your area ??

if so contact them they might do a young shots course in wildfowling .

i know in our club the juniors have to be a SGC holder if you want to join and you have to shoot with an adult over the age of 21 until your 18 ..

there is subscriptions for junior members in our club you only pay for your BASC subscriptions ....

here is some links... have a look at them to see if there is any young shots courses coming up in your area.... you will have to apply for a postion on the course , they will also give you some idea of the age limit on SGC for you ...

Many thanks for the info - Our club does not have a Junior member category so we are considering introducing one but are looking into the implications.

EG Supervision - does the Supervisor shoot at the same time ? the younger the junior member the more inclined to no but as someone gets more experience and is older eg 17 the more inclined to yes so it is a difficult judgement of risk assessment.

In line with the recent change to BASC Young Shots age limits, the East of Scotland wildfowling club has just increased its age limit for Junior Members to under-21 (previously under-18)

We only charge a subscription of £22, which is the BASC fee with no club add-on.

We simply adopt the national legal requirements regarding gun ownership and shooting by young people. In Scotland we have to - because the foreshore is not "occupied land" where a youngster could shoot without a certificate in the company of the "occupier". Basically, although there is no lower age limit for acquiring a Shotgun Certificate, a young person cannot use a gun on the foreshore, even if supervised, until he reaches the statutory age.
