Recommended Posts

my little lad is getting into clay shooting and learning how to shoot

he's 9 but a well built 9

he's shot a o\u 410 no probs and today tried a 20 bore which was a little big for him

both me and r lass are on about getting him his own gun

it was surgested we get him a 20 bore get it made to fit

another surgestion was to get him a 12 bore get the stock to fit and use 21 gram carts less kick

wondered what anyone opinions are

are we better with a 20 bore of 12 bore

Not my field of expertise but could you get him a 20g semi?

Ric

yeah was looking at this as my mate has one a webley 820 iirc

said if i price up a new stock could get one cut it to fit and could put the gun on my ticket for him

but could also try him on a 28 bore

he shot better today with the 20 bore than with the 410 but it just wasnt a good fit

im just thinking of upgrading my lad from a .410 to a semi auto 12g(less recoil) but at 9 i would probably stick to .410, only problem is you know you will have to change it sooner or later, i may have a .410 for sale here if your interested but to be honest if he can handle a larger callibre without putting the lad off shooting i would go with that, saying a 20b has less recoil is not true as they are lighter gun's and can give a far bigger kick, thats why i'd go for a 12g semi auto

I coach a lot of juniors both sexes. At the age of nine most children would struggle with the size of a 12 or even a 20 but as you say you lads big for his age. So given he can saftly handle the physical size of either gun I would have him shooting a small 12 gauge 26 28 inch barrels, fitted very important. Nice soft recoil pad or pref recoil reducer and 21 gram cartridges. The benifits are many. Please take care not to over face him at a young age. most my students at that age would be shooting a 28 gauge or a light twenty fitted with a recoil reducer and little light loads the recoil reducer makes the gun stock heavy and as a result makes the left hand handel the weight of the barrels better. (if he is right handed)
