Phantom 631
ayeup lads. That suit looks perfect for your ground. Defo on my list to get for the summer, well worth a try. Anything to hinder prying eye's, and offer concealment. You can buy the burlap to add your own personal touch to the suit. http://www.makeyouro...com/burlap.html Think you can buy leather off cuts too ATB. Bill. Excellent link there Bill I've looked at the comercial ones, they don't seem very good but the home made one is a great idea as you can change it as and when your surroundings dictate. Phantom Hiya Tony. Cheers mate Would be fun to do aswell, I saw some where that a chap used sand bags from Jewson's and cut them up, then dyed them the colour he wanted. Do the same with some thick string, and away you go. Aparrently its good to leave them outdoors for a couple of weeks to, gets rid of the new smells. We could get a competition going here......who can make the best Gillie suit ATB. Bill. Quote Link to post

Almost perfect camo for any terrain and it would keep warm in winter. Bunnies would look, sniff and think, "Ahhhhh..... Me old mate's are back in town and me mah & pah too, will go greet them all" Can just see the locals though, "Hello Police, press RSPCA, theres a GIANT 6 foot bunny running round the cemetery with a gun" And can you imagine the shock that young fox that pinched me kill would have if I came face to face with him again Great idea about the comp though but would we be able to see which was the best Mind you, nearest Jewson from here is a good 2 hours walk from me Phantom Quote Link to post

jackinbox99 41
Awesome looking bit of kit there tho, really does the job camo wise. I tend to use some cheap `s dpm camo gear I got off ebay for 4quid brand new. (trousers & jacket with hood) They fit nicely over top of tracksuit bottoms & fleece and are wind / tear resistant. Obviously dont blend in as well as the gillie suit, but for the money I paid i dont mind getting them covered in mud or laying in dykes etc. I think it depends on what your stalking though as to how effective what your wearing is. Rabbits tend to spot sudden movements and smell you from miles away. Ive had just as good results wearing a pair of jeans and a hoodie as I have wearing camo, simply by moving slowly, keeping close to cover and making sure im down wind - or just lying near a hedge and waiting! hedgerow pete 25
it is normaly better to make or at least alter your own to suit the area your working, as one type will never fit all areas all the time, the BIGGEST issue with making your own suit is fire, we used to used bdu 98 trousers with an extra water proof layer on the front, the same with the jacket and then we would dye differant colours or hessian or sacking material then cut them into strips and either sew or tie onto the suit but please make sure that it is not closed with a zip but you must use buttons as they can be torn off, you can buy several chemiacls to wash the finished suit with to make is fire proof because on a hot dry day you are walking around covered head to foot in tinder, evan if you dont smoke and just to save time we never used to do the trouser fronts or the bottom half of the jacket as we always used to shoot from the prone position Quote Link to post
Cheshire JP 0
Bit extreem for shooting rabbits, but they do work if your laying up waiting but dont forget a rabbits eye site is not good at the best of time and at night well crap ! they have crzy sence of smell and good hearing. ( altho ) if they hear you but cant smell/see somthing is wrong they mostly dont run.. and one hunting with NV will know what i mean.. i would advise that you hide your own sent and dont use any soap, gun oil, smelly sprays, ( other than the smallest drop of oil for your action ) as oil has a very strong sent. Wash all your kit in clean water NO SOAP! take a shower befor you go nothing other than water! no soap! keep all your hunting kit free from unwanted smells.. I keep mine in a black bin bag with some of my own home made sent that means i dont have to worry about being down wind of the rabbits or what am hunting. not only dos it mask my sent but rabbits love it and makes em feel safe to come out.. SO .. wash your self in plain water befor going. Dont wash kit unless you really have to.. if so just plain water NO SOAPS, then apply and sent mask and put back in bin bag keep kit in a bag to stop from getting unwanted smells on ya kit. this gos for cloths, gillies, ANYTHING! only use very VERY! small amount of oil on your actions, ( dont use WD 40 for crying out lowd lol ) so many people bring the rifles to me saying its not working right having put wd40 all over the dame thing.. if you dont have sent mask then always stay down wind so any sent you do give off they wont pick up.. happy hunting Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
I use one when static hunting over a warren mate. I find them to be very useful bits of kit and have assisted me accounting for a few bunnies in my time. My favourite type og hunting is from a static position. Si Quote Link to post
