Ratting - Last Sunday Afternoon

Recommended Posts

We decided to have a walk round the farm with the dogs Sunday afternoon. It was just us two with our dogs...with the spade and a smoker that doesnt like to work!

The dogs started to mark so I got the smoker going and set to work on the first holes. Two rats quickly bolted only to drop into a hole (under rubble) a few feet away. Then the smoker decided it only liked to smoke for a few seconds then cut out (guessing its due to my friend adding more oil!!!)

So the smoker was left alone and we pushed on following the dogs noses and helping them move the rubble, wood and plastic to try and uncover the rats.

Heres a few photos we managed to take inbetween us helping the dogs out:

(Dont think he can pull that out by himself  )

We/the dogs ended up accounting for 11 rats in total...including some greys...and as an added bonus the sun was out!

Cheers for comments.

Dillan: The plug is/was brand new...I bought the plug the day before. But that week a friend of mine welded a metal pipe on the strimmer for me...and in his wisdom added extra oil (on top of the mixture I had in!) as he though it could do with smoking more (he's never been ratting!!!).

I much prefer to just use the spade and follow the dogs noses...but its a case of when needs must!

I'll empty the oily mixture out and replace it with a weaker mixture and keep my fingers crossed.

Any other ideas/thoughts about strimmer only running for a few seconds are welcome!!!

maybe the length of the hose is too long for the bore of the pipe that is welded on to the exhaust, and there is too much pressure and the strimmer is struggling to push the exhaust fumes so far round the hose, and the exhaust is backing up. just a thought dan.
