lamp filters

Recommended Posts

Whats do you think of filters? Are they worth useing? My local spot has been over lamped and the rabbits are very lamp shy. I was thinking about getting a filter but just wanted to hear some views first. What colour should i get? It cant really be red because iv seen people over there with red filters quite abit. Is green any good? and what about amber?

Thanks in advance David

i asked a similar question on the smoochers site a few months back and this was the information i got...> a filter is good because it dims the light, quite often a fox is startled because of the glare of the beam... foxes, rabbits, hares etc are mostly colour blind or else see very little colour.... so trying to trick them with a different colour light is pointless....

late on in the season most of your chosen quarry will be wary of the lamp no matter what filter you use. when i asked the question my new green filter was already on the way. i was convinced that a change of colour would make the world of difference, after some of the replys i got i started having my doubts.... i discovered, afterall the heated arguements, i was wrong and down yet another tenner  (money is like rocking horse shite at the minute) ... infact, the red one for the cluson lamps dim the light quite alot and i think when calling in a fox or lamping rabbits you will get better results because it only takes a little light to make the eyes glow anyway so when you get into position you can let rip... the green filter doesnt dim the light half as much and i have found that quite a few things will leg it when they get caught with it.... IMO the green is useful if you get lost in fields  ....

like one grumpy member told me on smoochers, why dont you lot learn how to work a f*****g lamp better instead of wasting all your money on filters.... i cant remember who he was but he was delightful :)
