Takes all sorts I suppose. I know everyone has to learn from somewhere and I suppose the internet is as good a source of learning as any but its the ones who read something then all of a sudden they are f*****g experts in said subject. The internet is a wealth of information but alas, 60% is a load of f*****g shite. There that wee joke you said about the dogs communication, some tit will read that and actually believe it is true and before you know it, will be going around "educating" everyone about said subject. You see it on here, one minute they know f**k all, the next they are handing out advice. I suppose it's the way it is now........... Not like when we grew up. No computers on hunting, no videos or even books. If it wasn't in the library, you never knew a book existed!!! Naaa, we had to learn from elders and from trial and error. Which was best I wonder....... I know one thing, I didn't go about as if I knew it f*****g all like the ones today.......... f**k me I've turned into my granda!!! Quote Link to post

By that I mean you weren't tagging along with your auld man or some other cronies? I remember getting my first ferret. that was my introduction into the world of hunting. How I dreamt of running away with said animal, building camps and living off the land lol....anyhow,...ahem, where was I..... Aye, it was me and 2 mates, me with the ferret in a canvas RBS money back, inside pocket of wax jacket specially for said bag.... and a pocket full of the worse f*****g purse nets you'll ever get. Took weeks to dry out!!! Well, there we were ferrets, nets.... all excited...... First rabbit caught!!! Not out of rabbit hole as you'd expect but plucked from a hole in a dry stone dyke lol!!! CarraghsGem 92
off topic a little;- i also work, breed + train the occasional working border collie, bought in a pup from exceptional trial bloodlines, when i brought her along with my trained bitch down to the sheep the little fecker started yapping non stop while running with the trained bitch, needless to say she was returned to her breeder, just proves that there are some strains of collie out there that are very yappy as well, ive no use for a yappy collie or a yappy lurcher either! I remember out poaching for salmon, I never knew thats what we were doing but got told later. Auld man doing the poaching, me and my maw and dug waiting in a small type of van with said dug. We decided to go a walk cos we were bored and left said dog in van cos it was a f*****g liability. Anyhow..... walked quite a distance when we could here this god awful howling.... you know how foxes can make your blood cur, well, this was like that. f*****g shiting ourselves we made haste back to van but the closer we got the louder the noise was....... shitting ourselves we flew for the van.... It was the f*****g dug, not wanting to be left it had ripped up the seats and dug out the door panels!!! What a mess lol. Never got any salmon btw. Quote Link to post

huntingalltheway 2
saw a dog quite as amouse and when run with quicker dogs he started yapping to tell them to slow down as he was getting lost on the chase, its away for dogs to communacate to yap and bark ,cant beat adog hot on ahare barking like mad and two of his siblings come in take over and down the nasty hare ,part of the pack instinct lol mate you always get people twisting what you say. not stating what your implying but its a proven fact researched by 100's of top animal people that dogs do have ways of communicating to each other on basic form. i.g giving scent of being in season this is telling other dogs shes ready. shackles on back tells the other dog they mean business. even there tails shows how the dog is feeling and this is another method of communication between dogs. theres been much research into wild animals on hunts showing they do communicate on the hunt in simple terms i.e yapping wolves do it. wild dogs do it so why is it so hard for a hunting dog that you've unleashed there hunting instincts not do it. im not saying talking in the same way we do but they do have basic ways of communicating. look how wolves co-ordinate there attacks and even killer whales have adopted the same methods or lions or basicly nearly every predator thats pact oreintated do communicate in basic terms. this is what yapping is basic communication. any pack hunts man should tell you as even the fox hounds do it. and look at the baying earth or boar dogs what they barking for. just for a giggle?
