Leicester hunter 0
Well, had my licence and rifle a day now. Spent an hour or so zeroing in today, and finally started getting groups of approx 3/4 inch at 95yds. Im using eley subs, is this about right? im used to putting one on top of another with air rifles, and know this is unlikely with a .22 I know that at 95yds this is more than enough for a clean kill, its just i wondered is this the general grouping at this range? cheers Quote Link to post
JohnGalway 1,043
Sounds good to me. When I had my .22lr I used to get just under an inch at 100 when I was doing my bit. Quote Link to post

Hey John I'm currently in the process of learning the capabilities of my rim fire as well at the moment. When you were shooting your rim fire at 100 yards were you using the drop calculator on your scope (if it had any) or did you actually zero your gun at 100 yrds cheers Callum PS saw the short note left for Liam Clancy on your profile. Do you speak Gaelic? Edited March 11, 2010 by mangy1983 Quote Link to post

If you can group the air rifle like the 22 at 95 yards it'll be worth seeing. It's a good group mate. I take a golf ball out for practise and drop it at various ranges for rimmys or c/f. If you can hit one of those regular you're on the money. Edited March 11, 2010 by rowey 1 Quote Link to post

Do you speak Gaelic? No, I used an MTC Viper and it's SCB reticle, which has about a gazillion aim points. I prefer that to twidling with turrets TBH, works quicker for me. Used to be good enough at Irish, gone from me now mostly as I haven't used it in over a decade! Going to relearn it when I'm less busy. Quote Link to post

theinvisiblescarecrow 0
If you zero at 20yds you'll find the second zero around 60yds. The drop to 115yds is 1,1/2 mildots for me. Most people zero at around 60yds for an ave' range for hunting. If you have a particular range to shoot a\t zero for that. Group sounds good enough for Eley subs. Quote Link to post

I zero mine at 60 yds and the drop at 100 is 2 mildots with my Hawke V2 at x12 mag. 3/4" is good for 95 yds well done. Quote Link to post

If you are not using a bipod and a VERY good scope, then 3/4" groups are not just OK they ara F***'in brilliant. Look when you are Rabbiting you have about 20 seconds start to finish, it's dark, raining, the range is whatever it is 30, 50,67??yards Take the shot or forget it, no mildots, no breath control, no wind flags, Oh Dear its run in. Don't worry, be happy! AndyF Quote Link to post
