john b 38
Short answer, 'Yes'. The longer answer is that there were many traps designed for hawks and other birds of prey, some intended to kill, others intended to capture. None of these are legal to use in the UK. (There may be some special circumstances for scientific or conservation reasons where a very specific licence might be granted but these would be very few and far between). In some other countries, (e.g. the USA) it is still legal to take some birds from the wild for falconry purposes and in these countries live capture traps are still available. Anyone caught attempting to use such a trap in the UK would be faced with serious penalties under laws which are backed by the majority of public opinion. So you wouldn't get much sympathy from a judge, jury or the press. Quote Link to post
DUCKWING 302
WELL FELLA , JB IS CORRECT ........... THOUGH I CAN UNDERSTAND THE MANS FRUSTRATION .... IMO SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF HAWKS CAUSING TROUBLE TO PIGEON MEN .. ONES THINGS CERTAIN , IF IT WAS A RACEHORSE SOMETHING WOULD BE DONE , AND CONSIDERING THE PRICE OF PIGEONS TODAY IT SHOULD BE !! THE TRAP OFTEN USED IN EUROPE DUCKWING Quote Link to post

John Keswick 119
The larson trap is based on a previous design which was specifically for sparrow hawks. Two compartments, bottom one was fine mesh, where captured song birds would be kept as live bait, and a top compartment for catching the hawk. It was a single top entry trap, similar to a larsen trap, only with a bigger opening and the door opened outwards rather than the inward style of today’s larsens. I had a couple of really old rotten ones a few years ago, but they went on the fire as they were too far gone. Personally I think they ought to be brought back into use! Quote Link to post
