The trouble with lamps is...

Went out last week, travelled thirty miles with battery pack and light force striker - fuse blew after three runs Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Went out this week, with battery pack , new fuses, a back up battery, and guess what? Fuses blew on both battery back, and back up battery! Was wondering anybody have such similar problems? And what is the remedy? Noticed cigar socket getting hot, and a funny smell other than that it's not like they were overused, three or four runs each time?

I took all the fuses and conections of my lightforce, and just joined it with a good bit of cable, straight to the battery with bolts, never had a problem since.

anytime somebody mentions lightforce the following posts usually relate to the wiring.... santa is bringing me a 170 for xmas but i wonder will i have the same problems as my mates... his shoots sparks every where although he has since wired it up himself and i havent heard of any problems.....

Fuses blow for a reason,take your lamp back to where it was purchased,it may have a fault :thumbs-up:

being an electrician, if your cigar socket is getting hot, it is most likely due to a loose connection at the cigar socket.

 

as somebody said, you can take it back to where you bought it from, personally. i would cut the cigar socket off. From your battery take a 2 wires (pos. and neg.) to a lawnmower connector SOCKET. keep your connections TIGHT (tight is tight, too tight is f****d)

 

Put a lanmower connecter PLUG on the lead from your lamp, and hey presto.

 

I have never used a fused lead on a lamp.

Im thinking of doing this to my Light-Force, as the connections are not the best on mine ither and its only a year old.

as long as the bike battery has the power shouldnt be a problem i use a v max battery with mine and its sound

just watch the acid mate if its not a dry cell battery, you might end up with a leg missing in the morning!

Burnt a few myself! Heard thw wiring in the lightforce wiring was dodgy though? Roughly how long should i get lamping with this battery and the lightforce 170?

JUst wire it through as has been said if you lazy (like me). The filament on the bulb will blow before the wiring melts as P=VI therefore 100W/12V= 8.33A nominal current. The wiring is 1 mm and in free air off the top of my head is good for around 14/15Amps. Before the bilament blows you'll feel the cable warm and start to go sticky but it won't blow. This is assuming you don't have a cable fault before the filament. If you do and you dont feel it warm against your arm/leg youll soon have a blob of plastic in your hands ! :11: Using an inline fuse is a good idea if you can be 'arsed'. Use the same type as you use feeding a car stereo. Just fit it into the one leg +ve or -ve and rate it for around 10 -12 A, inrush shouldnt be much more.

The wiring is 1 mm and in free air off the top of my head is good for around 14/15Amps.

 

the only load on the cable is the load that the bulb is pulling, ie; 75w, which converted is around 6a when powered with 12v

 

 

so if what you are saying is 14/15amps it can take (can't remember what it takes and cant be arsed looking ), then it should be fine a 200W bulb on a 12v circuit will pull 16-17amp

 

Therefore the only reason why the cable should heat up is due to a loose connection

Ime in the middle of making up a lamp from a hand held cheep rechargable light, ive took the crap little battery out and put a lead on it and changed the bulb to one from a car spotlight ... just looking for a decent battery now ' would these be anygood ??
