Recommended Posts

the calcium and phosphorus issue was brought to my attention by the vet

Then your vet is a dick.

What does he think is in in raw bone?

and if you are giving

weetabix, kiddies milk and fish mixture. I usually mix the blended veg in with the weetabix etc. Also they get cod liver oil capsules and halibut oil capsules mixed in with it. And 2 t spoons of gravy granules in the milk to improve the taste for um.

then you aren't much better

No one can come up with anything then lol. I'm of next week so was hoping for a little BARF baiting in between surfing sessions, oh well I can always decorate the kitchen.   Mr Skelly my younge wipp

Sandymere, theres nothing to be ashamed of, why not come out of the closet. You admit that you feed your dogs raw food, does that make you hippy dippy? On the other hand you also give them everythin

Once again you manage to cut and paste something entirely inappropiate. You confuse raw with barf, yet again. Rather than simply answer you prefer to hide behind the smokescreen of pseudo science wh

I would strongley advice you to purchase the 3 books by Dr Ian Billinghurst The Barf Diet,Grow Your Pups With Bones and Give Your Dog A Bone. The answers to all your questions are in these books. There is in depth information on what to feed and why.Diets for dogs at all life stages are included.Every aspect of barf feeding is covered.

I have just reared a pup as described in the books and it is so simple.

Since switching my other dog to barf the dog has performed better even though he is now 7 years old.

Local to me there is a farm shop were i purchase chicken carcases. My friend gets bones from a farm butcher for nothing.I purchase liver and hearts from a small local abatior.

I buy veg from the supermarket.

To produce veg in a suitable pulverised state I use a Champion Juicer.

You will be very surprised as i was with regard the view of complete food in the books from someone who is a vet.

Read both, all be it briefly. Not essential but to those that are unsure of feeding raw, BUY IT and READ IT

Not slagging you off, just wondering why you want to feed a pup what is basically a load of crap. Weetabix, kiddies milk, halibut as well as cod liver oil alongside a fish mix and then feckin gravy granules, very apt name you have.

For anyone actually interested in feeding raw as in rmb, raw meaty bones, (which is not barf)once again here are some decent urls

http://www.ukrmb.co.uk for details http://www.rawfeddogs.net/Recipe/List for recipes) and to dispel some feeding myths

lol. I would strongley advise you to remember the Books are written to make money bit like Dr Aitkins and the aitkins diet and shouldn't be taken to seriously, certainly not as fact! If someone came and told you you should only give your family raw food you'd laugh at them, RAw, BARF born again BARf call it what you will it's all hippy "natural is best" tutt lol.

Sandymere, theres nothing to be ashamed of, why not come out of the closet.

You admit that you feed your dogs raw food, does that make you hippy dippy?

On the other hand you also give them everything else as well, just to be on the "safe" side.

You say that commercial dog food is balanced but what is a balanced diet? The one recommended by the petfood manufacturers? If that is the case how come there are so many different makes (altho' often part of the same small groups of companies), recipes, ingredients.

If all that dogs need to eat is contained in one "balanced" commercial food then surely they should all contain the same ingredients, protein levels, vitamins etc.

You know, as well as I do, that there is nothing wrong with a raw diet, so what exactly is it that causes you to continually kick against it and label everything other than commercial food as hippy dippy?

Nothing to do with 'new age hippy' bollocks, to me its old school and makes alot of sense, simple as. We all want whats best for our hounds, raw meat diet is logically better. But thats my opinion and all that matters to me.

for what its worth i agree.whatever we feed(personal preference,time,kennel/indoors .............)it should be a GOOD diet.

i find raw feeding good,i also see the benefit of "ready"/bagged food and have a happy medium where my dogs look/grow well and have good coats and teeth, energy enough to work and play all day.

from what i have read raw pork is not the best of foods though(aujetzki diaease, trichine etc etc) and so i do not feed it raw.

I agree that a dog should have a good diet, if it's working the best available, but I don't see why it has to be raw, to me it has to be what is appropriate and digestable. The idea of biologicaly appropriate food is excellent then some hippy type goes and shoves RAW in there, why?????????????? and then carbs are bad again why????? Please share with me and all the rest some good evidence that isn't the usual hippy rubbish about it being natural or cause they don't need it. Please show me why some cooked meat or cereal or even a bowl of complete is not biologically appropriate.

Now skelly If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times please don't make up stuff and attribute it to me if you want to say sandymere said then " quote " what I said & in context would be good.

Sandymere, I have no need to make up stuff and attribute to you. I think you quite often forget what you have said. Look back over your own posts, I have neither the time or inclination to continually cut and paste. If your memory is going perhaps you ought to look at your own diet.

Once again you come up with a so called scientific term, biologicaly appropriate food, which is what?

You go on about appropiate and digestible, what could be more appropiate or digestable than a raw diet?
