backfilling

hi guys after some advice have been learning to trap moles and i know the trade is secret and no one like to give there tricks away but here goes anyway. when mr mole backfills your traps do you reclear the run and then set the trap again or leave them and wait for him to dig back through. I always re set them but the other day i left some and still caught one. any help please would be grately appriciated.

Most of the time, when a mole backfills a trap, he has also dug another tunnel around the trap. He's going to keep using that new tunnel, and chances are he won't tunnel back through the backfill in your set trap--he has no reason to. So I would definitely remove your set, and start over on same location if you find the tunnel, or on a new location.

I do just fine and dandy thanks.

However, i along with many others on this site refuse to write instructions for the "have a go crowd".

 

Too often i am called out to a customer who has f****d things up by having a go and imo it just makes the situation ten times worse than it should have been.

As has already been said, the pro trappers are getting a little tired of all the wannabie mole millionaires that keep popping up, so please forgive any reluctance on our part to show you how to take the crust of stale bread from our mouths......

 

BUT...........

 

I will tell you that if a mole backfills a trap, it's usually for a reason. Think about it.

The mole you caught may well have been a different one to the mole that filled the trap. I will leave a trap for a day or two if it's been backfilled and quite often catch, i will usually set another trap further along the runs to catch it elsewhere just incase though.

I did and decided i was shit at it and never wanted to do it again

Its quite an art to be a good trapper, and the happy go lucky trappers will never understand it.

Never mind the tossers mate...........some of them seem to think they're the 'heroes' of pest control, so take their negative shite with a pinch of salt? You'll get sod-all help from them, as they're all too busy desperately trying to hold onto the customers they've managed to fool into thinking they're worth their wages

 

If you find your traps are getting filled with soil, it's almost certainly because you're setting them too loosely when you expose a tunnel, or you're inadverdantly setting them on a bend, setting them too shallow, or off-level.

 

I've been flamed for this before, & I fully-expect to get flamed again, but look on t'internet! It's not a mysterious black art, & there's a lot of good info' available if you take the time to look around. Don't expect to get the answers here, mate.............in my experience there's way too much jealousy & 'oneupmanship'. If you want to PM me with any particular problems you're encountering, I'll be more than happy to help you out if I can

But there we are, anyone can talk on the internet and hint at rubbish. Why not PM me some details about these people who are supposed to know me and my work??

 

It's all very well coming on here and suggesting that anyone can learn to be a moletrapper just by using google (and I expect that some may be able to do just that), but you've not been at it long yourself, have you? When was it you first started? May 2009? Not even a full season under your belt, and here you are telling everyone who easy it is.

 

And just in case anyone is in any doubt about your skills as a trapper, lets remember that we are talking about someone who has only been molecatching for a matter of months, and doesn't know the difference between a rabbit drop box and a cage trap. Oh yes, and dispatches foxes with an air rifle!!

 

Be warned lads and lasses, there's them that talk about it, and there's them that does it.
