Guest samstheman
It's that time of year again, dammit! Fireworks-hate them! We have some pups that are 6 weeks old today, and as usual at this time of year, people rejoice at buying a box of explosives and letting them off at the bottom of their gardens, regardless of the poor animals that reside in the neighbourhood. How do you prepare your pets for this noisy and, at times, scary time of year? Goddammmit, they scare the s**t out of me sometimes! Any tips on how to deal with this situation would be most welcome Quote Link to post
daniel 0
hi if i were you id just make sure the dogs couldnt see them and then put a radio on or something so that it blocks some of the noise. oh i wouldnt leave them in the dark if possible otherwise the flashing lights might spook them. luckily all our dogs are fine. hope it helps Quote Link to post

Straightline 0
Tried doping my bitch up from the vet but if you look into it their still totally aware of whats going on and remain stressed to hell, just cant show it or do anything. Tried plug in calmer and was useles. Loud television/radio helps to distract but they still get stressed. Remember their hearing is better than ours. My wife found out off the internet that what works for a lot of dogs (not all) is ' Back Rescue Remedy' from Boots/most chemists. We give our lurcher four drops which calms her right down. Its ony approx 5 pounds and lasts ages. Alos dont show them any attention as this has a negative affect. Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
i must admit i'm lucky as my dogs are outside but pay no attention to fireworks and just carry on sleeping ACP used to be a good sedative to help calm dogs down although I don't know if its still distributed by vets??? Guest The Shaman
Good topic I can't believe they sell fireworks so early and it always seems to be the arseholes who manage to get them early too. Fooking ban fireworks unless an organised display I say - At least you can plan around the time the display is on and if necessary bugger off with the dogs etc or bring them in the house so the double glazing takes a bit of the noise out. It's not beyond the realms of possibility for manufacturers to make fireworks quieter. Quote Link to post
