jasper65 6
hi guys anyone got any pics of their male red on the owners fist and what is there weight thanks Here you go pal! I wasn't that old back then in my earley twenties I would think. the male would fly all day every day at 2lb 3, but Hunted at its best at around 2lb 1, the top weight was a tad under 2lb 8 kitted out.... This is not to say the rest will fly at this as they all different even if they come out the same weight... Jasper Quote Link to post

jasper65 6
As you probably know they are all different Daniel . the bird in the picture came out of the aviary a tad under 2lb 8, but a brother to this bird which perhaps could well of been the same weight may fly heavier or lighter, some birds have faster metabolisms than others! you also have to look how the bird was reared and the techniques used through out the Manning and trainning, all this would have a bearing on the outcome of the birds flying/hunting weight!! you also have to remember that these weights are not static and change due to weather and condition of the bird.... I looked in a old Diary earlier and the redtail in the picture originaly came down to 1.15 1/2 to get him going until his Metabolism and appertite kicked in, all this will come about with some fittness until the bird can eat a vast amount or perhaps a full crop of reasonable quality meat and be bang on weight and keen the next day, to get a bird like a Redtail in this sort of condition will take a matter of weeks of constant flying but it will be worthwhile in the end.... The bird in the picture would slope soar over some serioulsy long distances before dropping a wing and crashing into its quarry or cover, Great to watch I must admit but the advantage of trees or any height makes it more worthwhile flying a Redtail!! don't get me wrong you can have some fun Ferreting but seeing a Red slopesoar on them broad wings in a cracking sight.... cheers Jasper Quote Link to post
