pigeonman 8
my bitch had her pups 2 days ago, the first of the two pups needed help to start breathing so i rubbe it until it was ok, the second came out fine. the bitch wouldnt allow the first to feed for a while then gradually allowed him back to feed. After a few hours i could hear her snarling at the pups, it gradually got worse until she shook one of em for going near her face, i took the pups away and rang the vet, he said try one more time and if she wont accept em just take em away, which ive ad to do. the trouble is now the bitch goes has been going hysterical since ive taken the pups away, iv had to put her in my large dog cage as she went for my 2 year old son! ive tried showing her the pups this mornin and she went mad trying to bite them. i let her out the cage n she sat on my lap on the sofa but still kept snarling at my boy, i cant put her outside in a kennel as she wont stop howling, barking and snarling. the neighbours are gona end up goin nuts soon because she just wont calm down. shes only a small bitch and has managed to bend the bars on her cage. im not sure what to do, i cant let her have the run of the house because of my son and the pups, ive tried puttin her in the kitchen and bathroom but she just carries on going nuts. any advice??? oh and ive been hand rearin the pups since 14 hours after the birth, which i know aint the best of things to do but i had no choice. this is the first time ive bred a dog and i just aint got a clue what to do to calm her down. waidmann 105
definately a hormone problem imo. the birth, milk shooting in(no doubt if not feedng the young she will go mad just from that) etc etc. first priority has to be the kids bud. then i would get her to the vets and find out if they can help reduce the milk flow and poss sort out her hormones(poss testosterone?????). i doubt very much she will feed or accept the pups now. did they both get the first milk from her? (beastings) if not the maybe the vet can help with that too(as far as i know there is no substitute for that). how are the pups doing? i wish you the best of luck bud. waidmann Quote Link to post

kill um with crisps 7
For the moment at least shall we stop talking about killing the poor f****r?! Shes just given birth, of course her hormones are all over the place. Especially if its her first litter! 2 options: Option 1) Give her pups back and if she kills um she kills um and then she will get back to normal over the next few weeks, Option 2) Keep her away from the pups and your son and play it by ear. Without her pups she will be just as traumatised as any HUMAN would be regardless of wether she kills um or just has um taken off her by you. Why is she going bonkers? Because she is hormonal and traumatised! What she needs right now is understanding, support and time, not a bullet! Quote Link to post

You simply can not suddenly brand the dog aggressive because of this incident!! :wallbash: Your kids should be kept well away from a newly whelped bitch anyway, many a bitch will reject or kill puppies due to being stressed whilst whelping. Children should always be kept well out of the way for at least 3 days after birth to allow the bitch to settle with her puppies and get into the swing of things. Put the bitch in a quiet comfortable place in her crate, KEEP the children away from her and allow her to get over what sounds to be a horrificly stressful situation for her. If she settles then i would introduce her slowly to the puppies and see how she reacts. The very fact that she's snarling at your son should have told you just how stressed and upset she was. Poor thing. Quote Link to post
