I am considering getting a new air rifle for Christmas of my parents but i am not sure what kind

would be best. I am 15 and using a Webley Sport .22. But i feel i need a bit of a bigger, more

powerfull gun. I will probably have a budget of £200-£250,Could anyone give me any advise on what gun

would be best and what you would recommend. I will mostly be shooting hare, rabbbit and pigeons.

Thanks Ben

The first ever rifle i had was when i was about your age was a falcon FN19. Even though it was only a single shot it was deadly accurate and would easily manage rabbits and pigeons at 50yds. I even had a lucky shot with it, dropped a fox at 30yds! managed to get the powerpell to hit him straight in the eyeball!!! :icon_eek:

P.s, you must have frightnend that hare to death!!

only kidding, nice going buddy! :clapper:

Ben; Unless you're built like a fifteen year old brick sh!t house ....? I too can't rate the BSA LIGHTENING (preferably XL) too highly, mate. Unfortunatly, I've just sold my own rig. Lazer, rigid case, 'scope 'n all. 250. But the was 400's worth of kit. I'm sure ye may find some sucker who's bought one, then fell for the 'Mr S.A.S Image' thing and wants to flog it in for a sleek, black, 'Image Militaire', pre charged multi shot thing ;)

My advise? Never mind how ye look in the mirror - or to ye mates, mate. Knocking over a hare - unless ye turned sideways and popped a squatter? - shows ye may have some Field Craft about ye? If ye can creep through a wet bog, on ye belly, and peer through a tussock to find yeself examining the whites of a hares eyes, it matters little what sort of air rifle ye have.

And, if that first slug doesn't land where ye Know it will, as ye squeeze that trigger? What the hell business have ye taking that shot - let alone four more, in rapid succession?

Seek out the most reliable, light, accurate Air Rifle on the market (BSA Lightening. Or possibly one of the lighter HW range? Again, a reliable rifle, I'm told. I only know the HW77, while oozing 'Man Appeal', is like aiming a length of telegraph pole!)

Most importantly, in my view, is to learn how to fire the thing. Open sights or 'scope. It's no good squeezing that trigger if ye don't KNOW that " \|/ " or " -|- " , just above and behind the eye, means brains on grass.

The most flashy, black, expensive rifle in the world is no good to the man who can't get in range of his quarry and then drop that quarry with a single, properly placed shot. Just that one shot.

You're young yet. Master ye basics. Grow into an Expert. Someone we can alll all be proud of :good:
