luckyplum 50 Posted March 7, 2010 Report Share Posted March 7, 2010 anybody got any advice for me ? i have a two year old bitch beddy/whippet x beddy/whippet who has been slow as anything catching on to the rabbiting game,at last she,s started to catch a few but she strugles to hold onto them, this week she caught one which wriggled free only to be caught again by the dog but still managed to free its self and away it went down a hole ! i own this dogs mother who is the opposite, she was doing too much at six months old and lets nothing go once she,s caught it,any sugestions please ? cheers plum! Ive seen 2 whippets and a collie/grey with the same problem,slow to come on and then letting them go,none of them have got any better and are write offs. Maybe some rats to get her blood up is a possibility,but it dont look good mate. Quote Link to post

Go back to basioc retrieving mate, teach the dog to "hold", by placing the dummy in its mouth, hold its mouth closed gently, telling it to "hold", let it carry the dummy, do recalls and tell it "hold" all the time. When it is doing it with the dummy, try this with rabbits, telling it hold.The penny should drop.Cheers WR. Quote Link to post
trisha 1 Posted March 7, 2010 Report Share Posted March 7, 2010 seen a couple of dogs do this but only when they first start to catch it normaly comes out of them after a couple of months of catching but never seen it in a two year old dog just keep taking her out mate and maybe a couple of rats mite do the trick get her back up a bit like steve said Quote Link to post
