hello jack..whenever i have a situation like this i go thru a test run...first off remove mod and scope.then use the gun no scope/sights/mod and shoot at a safe target..large box full of newspapers with a good back stop..then fire off 5 pellets by pointing the the gun at a mark on the box..see how the pellets group..and dig out any pellets trapped in the news paper to see if any strange rifling marks on back of pellets..if not fit mod back and do the check again.check pellets again.

another question do you shoot freehand or off a support...

and a third option try adding a weight to the mod just for a test ..lead strip about 2 oz...then try a group. used to do this to early springer karbines to tighten groups......,

Thats the general consensus I have never used one on a springer, but it IS possible to get a good zero with a pod

If however you do use a pod with a springer to zero, then the gun will have a completely different Point Of Impact when shooting freehand

 

So the last word on that, is if you use a pod to zero, then you should use a pod to shoot with, if you shoot freehand, then you should zero with it freehand.

I think its worth reiterating the possiblity of a dirty barrel; I had a problem which sounded relatively similar to this, and after firing about 50 'cleaning pellets' (wads of material, like this) it was suddenly back to as near on pellet on pellet as I could achieve with it (the inaccuracy being caused by my pathetic technique). If you are interested in doing this, the way I was advised to do it was fire 3 wads that were oiled (gun oil) then one clean one (to help prevent any possible dieseling later), and repeat it as many times as you can be bothered (I think I did five to eight) then finish off doing half a dozen clean ones to finish cleaning it out. It worked well. However I suppose a 'pull through' or a brush set would be better, but I didn't have access to either.

hey guys.

 

I wrote loads about what I was going to do regardng where I left off re fitting the scope, shimming the rings etc but then pressed back and it wasnt her when I came back!

 

So I will confine loads of writing into a small ammount that will make me look very abrupt.

 

-Can someone iliiterate the definition of 'Cantering' for me, I know its refrence is to the vertical aspect of the crosshair and shot placement but more would hlp...

 

However this may seem stupid now but I am also suspecting dirty barrel. I have never actually cleaned it and fired thousands and thousands of pellets through it.

 

When Iget back I'm just going to follow a video from youtube. Dried babie wipes, cut into 3, some plastic fishing line dowwn the barrel with a loop on one side, rap the baby wipe round it covered in gun oil and bring that through a dozen times or so, I suspect it will be truely fouled. Then a few clean goes through to make sure no excess oil in there, then lead it in. Hopefully this is it!!!!

If I were you I'd take it to your local gun shop and have it bore sighted, then start again at 10 meters, and work it from there

When you buy a new tele sight you have it roughly sighted at the shop, a mate had the same problem you have with your sights and this put him back on track. Also, do you have the sight stop tight enough in the stop hole on the rail?, or every time you fire your sights will creep back

Yeh its all nice and tight. Its gonna be a fouled barrel and that lose screw I'm sure of it. Will find out saturday will let you know.

Hi, Jack.

 

'Canting'...... OK, as you look through your scope, for arguments sake, you're looking in a straight line to infinity. Your pellet (or whatever) flys through a parabolic arc 'til gravity and air resistance wins the day over kinetic energy and it hits the deck.

 

Because the shot leaves the gun say 30-40ish mm below your line of site, it has to go up to cross and meet your sight-line (zero) then back down again. If the barrel is not DIRECTLY below your line of site, instead of going just up and down, it must go slightly from one side to the other too.

 

Soooo, if say you zero at 20 yards and there's a half inch out in vertical alinement, spot on at your 20 yard zero but by 40 yards, it'll be half an inch out the other way. One side to the other.....
