A grand morning out.

Recommended Posts

Woke up early this morning and saw the sunshine so I thought I'd take the Rimmy for a wander over one of my permissions. I go there about 0800 and the frost was still sharp on the ground but the sun was blazing on the back of my neck, lovely, anyway, a quick wander about revealed absolutely no rabbits above ground. I noticed movement in the next door farm's field so popped across for a look and saw 3 hares playing about so I thought I'd sit and watch for a bit to see waht happened. It turned out that I wasn't the only one there watching, in the corner of the field were 4 Roe calmly browsing on the hedge row and stopping every now and again to watch what the hares were up to.

Cursing myself for not having my bins or my camera I watched the deer through my rimmy's sight, a beautiful 3 point buck in hard horn and fantastic condition, a lovely doe who looked rather portly around the midriff and two doe followers. Having only asked the farmer on Wednesday I knew he liked to see them so they are not fair game but I'll definately be back with the high seat and camera. (Might ask next doors field owner if they like venison ;) as they transit across quite a distance. I'd stalked to within 80 yds of the deer, most of which was across open grazing fields so they were quite docile until the hares came bounding along and scared them off. I was surprised that the pregnant doe hadn't got rid of last year's offspring yet :hmm:

So a grand morning out indeed, I love living in the coutryside
