Malt 379
peanut butter really? And, how do i get a piece to stay on the hook.? I make a hole in a biscuit, (chocolate digestive, dog biscuit, anything!) smear it with peanut butter and slip it on the hook. Edited March 7, 2010 by maltenby Quote Link to post

Malt 379
nbice one malten, so why do they like peanuts so much? Not sure mate, but I've had results with it in live capture traps and smeared on the trigger plates of fen traps. Quote Link to post

huntinglover 2
i tend to use a snickers bar mate works a treat for squigs and rats. the rats may not be feeding because they get very wary of new objects in there enviroment. good luck. Quote Link to post
Airborne9 4
As above mate Rats are Neophobic which means that they dislike or are wary of anythig new, wether that be new food or something new in theirs runs. Rats are also omnivore's which means they are very versatile in the many of choices of food that they have, so if they dont like something new theyll find something else to eat. The chances are that if you leave your traps there for a while to weather, youll start getting some results. Airborne Quote Link to post
DDD 4
The bird feeding fat balls work. Rats are drawn to the high fat/protein in them. Make sure you tie the bugger down though. Quote Link to post
tillylamp 1,838
hi, i used to put chocolate in mine and they loved it,also never touch the trap with your bare hands or you will taint it with your sent, rats are very clever up untill they get traped, and dont put the trap directly on a run as it makes them very warey,i used to set my traps to the side of them,it may be that your not using the wrong food as the bait but the place your putting your trap could be wrong, thanks tl Quote Link to post

arnieboy 93
hi mate are the cages covered or just put down? covering them with straw or hay makes them more rat friendly Edited March 14, 2010 by arnieboy Quote Link to post
