lamping foxes isnt realy my fortae,but one of the dogs that sticks in my mind goes by the name of floyed from liverpool,sureal animal,il never forget feeling the dogs heart beat through its collar as it stood waiting for the fox to run up the beam.

during the recession of the early eighties we hunted foxes to sell for their pelts to a guy called cobbledick who was a fur trader,we recieved between 5pounds and 35pounds per skin,so we alway's kept good fox dogs,we quickly became very proficient at catching foxes without doing too much damage to the coat,our lurcher's were mainly collie/greyhound,deerhound/greyhound,saluki/greyhound crosses and all took to it easily,after a few bites they soon learned how to hold them so as not to get bit,once they master the choke hold it is no contest for the dog,some dogs bowl them over and pin, them other's pick them up and shake them.I don't think you will find a legendary fox dog due to the personalised nature of hunting them,its not like coursing were thousands of people spectated at an organised event,so reputations were soon grown quickly due to very nature of the sport and films were taken that enhanced their reputations further.you will find most lads had favourite fox dogs but none really of national renown,we had a special dog that stood 27tts,a saluki/greyhound that would go through anything to get a fox,easily the best we ever owned,had a good reputation locally but only to our circle of friends,wirralman

 

I used to supply fox pelts to Cobbledick, mink too. His place in Bude was burnt down by the bunny huggers.

 

Roll up the pelts,freeze them and take a load up there every couple of weeks.

Knew lads that used to snare them for the pelts too.

2 dogs my way 1 called charlie 1/2 x 1/2x out off pie and a collie whippet greyhound called toby charlie 8 foxes one night toby 5 in 1 night charlie went to liverpool and died in a dyke toby went mad:angel: wanted to kill everything and everyone

there is a few prolific fox dogs my ,best i seen was my pups father ,dynamite on all quarry ,a collie xwhippet xhound .The most placid lurcher you ever did see around people and dogs but when he is working he shows his dark side.In my opinion a top fox dog is worth his weight in gold , i have a good one myself in my kennels hes 7 now and keeps on getting better thank god with age

never saw him myself but had a very good bitch off him was buck owned by neville fachey big reputation on charlie . and threw some very good stuff as well .
