V-Mach tuning kit or Theoben Gas Conversion for BSA Lightning XL

Recommended Posts

I have a BSA Lightning XL which is 2 years old. Was wondering if it was time to upgrade the spring thats in at the mo with a Theoben Gas Strut Conversion or with a V-Mach tuning kit. I will be using the gun for shooting rabbits mainly. Not actually used it for anything but targets at the mo. Just recently bought the gun second hand. I also have a Hawke 3-9x40 scope on at the mo and was also wondering whether i should put maybe a 3-9x50 scope on it, but will this actually gain me much? i am finding that when i zoom in on targets at about 30 yards although you can see the target the image is not as crisp as what i would like it. Any help would be welcomed.

Hi there.

I put a theoben strut in my xocet xs and it shoots like a different rifle. From cocking it for the first time after fitting the strut i noticed a huge improvement in smoothness and much less whiplash on firing. You also have the added fact that a gas strut will last a lot longer than a spring no matter how good you buy. A definate recommend as far as i'm concerned. The only advantage that i can think of with the 3-9x50 over 3-9x40 is the 50 mil lens will gather more light into the scope. Hope this helps.

Hi, mate.

I can't comment on spring kits but I do have a Lightning with a gas-ram. It did go some way to address some of it's issues, smoother to shoot, less mechanical noise and no need to worry about leaving it cocked for too long, however, it did nothing to solve it's biggest problem. It's still a Lightning....

They are flawed. It still has a crap trigger, it still kicks like a .223, the builds still rubbish and it still has that stupid scope rail. Oh and the BSA mod's a joke.

Instead of spending loads of cash on what you've got, you'd do much better getting rid and buying a better gun.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh and I'm not takeing the mick.....

Good luck, mate, whatever you decide.

Cheers.
