Sorry lurchers but that comment doesnt hold any water mate. If you take a pup out of non working parents you run a huge risk. A risk that needn't be taken as there are decent dogs out there.

Same as mating non working dogs, you run a huge risk of ending up with duffers...which is the whole point of the thread.

Thats another reason i never kept back a pup i bred

accidental mating, my dog 7mth old at the time sired a nice bitch pup.

i gave it away as a pet and its in a perfect home, well loved and looked after but if it had faulted in my hands it was just another thing to blame.

everybody on here says only put worker to worker,why ive seen good dogs breed crap and crap dogs breed go so why dont people breed what they think as you get good and bad either way.my borders were bred out of kc stuff and all grafted well,to me its the time and effort you put into ya dogs and not leaving them in kennels to long before start bringing them on.mine get rats at 5mths old and took out to watch on loads of diggs till they are 11mths then they are just as keen to have a hole end with an experienced dog then when they are 12mths they fly in on there own.so worker to worker means nothing it what you put into ya dogs that comes out of them.atb

if you take a pup out of workers you run the same risk in my eyes mate,you no your self with a pup at the age of 4mths old if it has the right attitude or not.but some do some dont like anything else.i proved a point with my borders with my mate off the hunt because of my dogs pedigree[show stuff] and he was in at 10mths old and thats because when we broke through my old dog was stiff after been there in a blizzard for 5 hrs and when your temper goes well i let the young dog in to do the job as my mate said he wouldnt graft till he was 3yrs old[because of his breeding]till he got a shock.

Any terrierman worth his salt will confirm thats sh1te. There will always be dogs that dont make the grade even in the best of working lines but to say the chances are equal of getting a working terrier from unproven parents and non working lines is miles away from the truth.

i hope you arnt insinuating that im into dogs for money,as i never have been and never will be.in 31yrs ive bred 1 litter of lurcher pups and 4 litters of terrier pups all for my own use.and its me who is stupid for giving them away as the isnt many genuine dogs lads left as most of them want the coin but like i say i never have.

BBB, i think you just got a chip on yer shoulder mucker...........you are constantly spouting negatives about shit this and shit that, have you ever thought that not every one in the hunting world be as commited and serious as yourself...i aint knocking your ablities,i couldnt give a toss to be fair how good you are or aint, but what about the tens of thousands of folk who just like to get out of a saturday/sunday with thier half decent dogs and suck up the fresh air and stand a chance of some rabbit,ratting or digging..........not everyone has the knowledge you do about dogs, many people get sold dogs that come from a load of crap and they turn out to be corkers, many folk also buy expensive so called proven dogs only for them to turn out crap.....where do u draw the line?, most of us aint got 5 spare days a week to go digging,great for those who do........so is there any harm in someone buying a dog for 200 quid and having a dabble on weekends, or should all of us only ever buy dogs that are from recommended breeders who have centuries of blood line paperwork (and still risk the chance of a bum dog),

personally,i think if you have good working dogs, and u breed from them,chances are the instinct will sooner or later kick in, if it dont u got a pet...whats the big deal...there are of course idiots out there who breed thier dogs like fook just fer a few quid.............but i dont see how this affects you BBB...........you must have your own permission to hunt on?you must have your own "proven" dogs to hunt with, you must have a "proper" spade to dig with?...........let others do what they want, it aint causing you any grief is it?..........and for the record....my dog aint proven, hes an average ratter thats all, but if someone wants his strong plummer semen rammed up thier bitches minge then drop me a line, im sure they'll turn out ok ; )

No mate as i breed the odd litter of springers myself it was more aimed at people like hancock and lads who just go and get retired greyhounds to breed to make a few quid.atb dell

Had look today , but there where no sat navs
