pongopalmer 19
When I was a kid i had a bull terrier, no, our house had a bull terrier, as he was the family dog. I worked him no different than my terriers and luchers, if i was out, he was out. He had as good a nose as ANY dog i've seen, marked and drew foxes, even dug him out a few times! Hard as fecking nails, he took some stick .. Superb marker of rats and would dig like a fiend to get 'em. Pheasant wild, he'd hunt 'em up and nail 'em on the seat or take off. Basically he hunted everything I did and had, for his type, great success! Would I buy one 'as a working dog'... Not a fecking chance!!! His faults were many, and i'd rather remember him for the good times, i loved that dog! Why pay that money on 'a gamble', they are NOT working dogs, from whatever line! If you have one as a pet, and you fancy having a dabble with it in the field, great stuff, it's loads of fun BUT if you want sommat serious, go for an already made 'working' bull type, or better still, a good line of working terrier! to be honest mate he was bought as a pet - guard dog. i started tacking him out in to the field with my rifle for fun until i realised i didnt need my gun any more recently av bin takin him on rough ground were he does well with the rabbits as for his nose i carnt knock it .. i got hopes for heaver work for him in the future Good stuff mate, yours looks as mine did as a youngster, same type. It's quite funny, but if you have a dog that is so keen, you will realise what the possibilitys of a dog are, rather than a gun! Best of luck with him, good to know, though i wouldn't be too 'general' on this site, about what you hope to do with him in the future and i still stand by what i said about 'buying' one as a worker... cheers thanks for the advise mate i no what u mean about buying one as a worker ............ hogdog 61
You really should speak to the owners of Ingles Bull Terriers before saying that there are no working lines out there. This is my boy at 14 months...22.5" tts and 58lbs in the pic, 21 months now and 62lbs...as good a worker as you could ever hope for. Edited August 19, 2010 by hogdog Link to post

jigsaw 11,863
in the late 's I had 4 at the one time....ALL bar one were put to sleep, the other one(dont get yer hopes up)was sold to a bloke that wanted it,they were all tried and ALL failed miserably. Now I did have a half bred E/BX Staff/Pit and she was something else to work.Hogdog that looks a right agile animal, but to see it do the big task it was bred for would only instill confidence in me on their return as agenuine worker.I also did have half bull/russells for years and most were worth feeding.I did see some good E/B's years ago and they were as good as any, real pity they dissapeared Edited August 19, 2010 by jigsaw Link to post
hogdog 61
I'm not sure what you mean by 'the big task it was bred for'. That's not me being provocative, it's just that there are more than one theory as to what they were bred for and I'm not sure what you believe. I know what this line were bred for and that's general purpose workers. For various reasons I only use him on Rabbits. Link to post
jigsaw 11,863
well hogdog, general purpose is not the kind of work Im refering to,as you know well.I was brought up with bull terreiers that worked at earths, nothing much else, your dog does what you want, theres no one can pick holes at that.Best of luck with him.
