I phoned a mate of mine last night and asked him "is it just my imagination or did we used to catch mink fairly regularly with the dogs" and he confirmed that I am not losing my marbles or suffering from alzeimers - and another thing - I'm not suffering from alzeimers!

You see "trim" (that means something else where I come from) this particular reservoir was ringed by pine forest and snaking up from the water every few hendred yards were dry stone walls. Now obviously most half intelilent mink when flushed either go to ground or head for the nearest tree - but some actually sought sanctuary in the walls. so all you had to do was get a mark, then move a few strategig stones/rocks and bingo - if the dog was in the right place at the right time he would get himself a mink.

Now "trim" me old son, you werent there and I DON'T tell lies about hunting/fishing (well maybe little ones) so I will accept your apology and lets move on.

P.S

The terrier in question was a lakie/bedlington but I saw JRTs and other terriers catch mink using the same method. - The reservoir was next to a 1950/60s abandonded mink farm.

I dont think you read ORT correctly, well i didnt read it the same way as you did. I dont think he was taking the mick but saying how hard it is for terrier to catch mink, so yours deserved a medal for being so good at it :unsure:

The first time I took Molly out minkhunting we'd drawn for ages with nothing about then I asked Molly to hold my whippet while I went down to the river bank, next thing is I look upbank and she's running along the bank hissing me dog to catch the mink...which it did,she then realised the error of her her ways and luckily the dog hadn't killed it.We had a brief chat about hunting ettiquette and the fact that I would have to leave the county if my dog had f****d up the hunt  :D
