Good first outing

Took my 4 month old jill out for the first time on my day off today.

 

First warren I tried was a shallow one with about 8-9 holes, but most of them are in an enclosed area of a couple of square yards, with only a couple of holes coming away from the main cluster. The ferret went down the hole almost straight away, as you would expect a ferret, and before long she was coming out of holes and going back down others, and didnt take long to get used to the nets. Unfortunately no rabbits from there but thats just how it goes!

 

Next warren was a few minutes walk away and was about 6 or 7 holes over a bigger area. Entered the ferret and before long she was out the other side so she was moving around. Tried her in another hole then a rabbit bolted with the jill hot on its tail! Just a young one but it was dispatched humanely while the ferret covered the rest of the warren.

 

Next warren was a bit more difficult, with about 12 holes, but usually holds a rabbit and I was getting pretty confident in my young jill. Before long I heard a thumping and a rabbit bolted, eating size this time. The ferret then came out of the hole to investigate before being entered into another few more holes to double check.

 

Tried one more warren that I had ferreted yesterday but only because it was right next to the one I was on. Wasnt expecting much and didnt get much!

 

So all in all 4 warrens 2 rabbits on my jill's first outing! That might not sound like a lot but on this particular permission its hard going sometimes anyway, and a day like that is not uncommon!
