Haven't seen a topic as this, and I'm looking for more to fill the rainy days (winter coming here in Aus) when I can't be out. Damn, it's raining now. Please add your recommendations and a brief review.

 

Richard Jefferies - The Gamekeeper At Home & The Amateur Poacher

Rural England at the turn of industrialisation, a document of natural history as much as of human character and the commerce between the two. Originally published in the late 1800s as a newspaper serial, the book is still cohesive as a whole. Though mostly written in the third person, it's more as an observer than someone outside the proceedings.
