shell 42
Our smoker is made from a strimmer, a friend made the exhaust system and fitted the pipe so it looks the dogs doo-dahs! Problem we tend to have is people getting too excited with the smoker. It's ok for that initial blast to get them bolting, but any more and the rats are gassed to ground and you end up digging to them and they're half dead to ground. Farmer at the chicken farm doesn't mind us digging half his land up as he says we turn it over nicely! But I imagine some people would mind. We always start off with the smoker then make the same mistake we make every time of gassing them. In the end we just dig where the dogs have marked and then use the smoker in places we can't dig. shell Quote Link to post
Guest rattdog
thanks for the tip.... Im really interested in using my smoker on the ground squirrels here thier burrows are about 5 inches in diameter and I dont think there is a terrier on the planet with a chest span to fit inside and ferrets are illeagal here in california. thats probabley why we have such a ground squirrel problem in this state, some ferrets and purse nets and problem solved, but me not being one to want to break the law, I converted my chainsaw into a smoker, by the way shell your border terrier's look top notch, I have a patterdale coming to me in about a week, I was initially looking for a border terrier but being that california only has about two border terrier breeders in the whole state the pickings were slim, the one breeder I spoke with went on and on about ribbons and shows and never mentioned hunting or ratting once so I thanked her for her time and gave up, but your borders look like they can really get it done.
