weejohn 3
I clean mine nearly every time i use the rifle, even if i have fired only 2 or 3 shots. It only takes 10 mins when you keep on top of it. I also dont clean the .22lr. Quote Link to post
v-max 2
I hardly ever clean my c/f rifles tight to be once a month & my .22lr never. Quote Link to post
sounder 9
the very odd time, Quote Link to post
clint 45
I do every time out, every calibre, with pull rope. build up of powder or metal ,no good for barrel life or accuracy. Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
Every time i take the rifle out it gets cleaned.... and a good copper cleaning routine every 50 rounds or so....not hard to keep on top of things that way.... Snap. Quote Link to post
RicW 67
Theory says that there is no need to clean a 22lr that is only ever used with subs. A cf, or a lr used with supersonic copper coated should be cleaned fairly regularly cos copper can build up and damage the rifling. I can't pretend to speak from experience but it makes sense to me. Treacle Trackpad 6
Every time i take the rifle out it gets cleaned.... and a good copper cleaning routine every 50 rounds or so....not hard to keep on top of things that way.... Snap. Same here, if it goes out it gets cleaned whether it's fired or not. Quote Link to post

jelly4_ 0
never clean the barrel of my 243, a clean barrel gives a different point of impact then a barrle with a couple of rounds through it in my opinion ATB Quote Link to post
langouroux 14
i rang my mate and asked him the same question...he said " you have two choices mate, you either clean it every time, or not at all" seems to be the answer on here to! Quote Link to post
sako trg 1
HI guys been out to zero my new 6.4x55 today and was wondering how often i should be cleaning my barrel? never clean my .22lr but not sure about centrefires? i may e opening a can of worms here!? always clean my c/f's but put a fowling round through before I go start my next shooting as a clean barrel does affect point of impact.cleaning does prolong barrel life. I was once under the mistaken impression that a cleaned bore (C/F) needed a fouling shot to bring the group back. Now I disagree with that statement. I shoot 6.5, a 17 Rem and two 22.250s and can honestly say after cleaning, the second bullet goes virtually in the same hole as the first - reason? Perfecting one's cleaning regime. To the bore snake boys - dont bother reading any further as your accuracy is going to be compromised by erosion of your crown - some say better not to clean your rifle than use a snake. There is no substitute for getting the right tools and cleaning solvents. It takes me about 3/4 hour to clean the bore of any of my c/fs. It should also be born in mind that it is one thing to remove particles of copper from the bore and un burnt powder with your chosen solvent but shooters should be aware that there is another problem that affects accuracy no matter how regular your are with your cleaning and that is carbon build up in the throat of the barrel - just about all solvents will remove some of it but never all of it. Anyone who know anything about rifle cleaning will be using J B Compound to remove this carbon every 50 shots or so. Yes I clean my rifle every time I take it out whether pulling the trigger or not. I do not however bore clean my 22LR as it shoots sub sonic. 1 Quote Link to post
