Endgame 68
WHAT DO THE READERS THINK ABOUT SIMPLY GIVING AWAY PUPS FOR FREE??? I WAS TAUGHT THAT YOU GET NOTHING FOR NOTHING IN THIS LIFE & IF YOU WANT QUALITY YOU HAVE 2 PAY. EVEN WHEN I HAVE GOT A PUP FOR FREE FROM A FRIEND,I HAVE INNOCULATED OR GAVE A FEW BAGS OF DOG MEAL,AS IT AINT CHEAP TO REAR A LITTER AS WE KNOW EVEN IF U DIDNT HAVE TO PAY A STUD FEE. DO U VALUE SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE PARTED HARD CASH FOR(EVEN AT A REDUCED RATE FOR A FRIEND)??? WHAT DO YOU THINK?? 1 Quote Link to post
T78 4
i didn't pay for the lurcher i have now(was given him as a pup from my cousin.) and he's better than any dog i did ever pay for! Quote Link to post
cooper101 86
i dont like giving pups away as i dont feel people value them enough and treat them with the respect they deserve!! easy come easy go!!! although i do give good pups to trusted friends that i know will make the most of them a reaspect them!!! rickyspringer 15
very good subject to raise, I was taught you pay for quality... but when it comes to dogs that doesn't matter, the dog with the most potential I have was given to me for free, the breeder knew he would have a good home. I agree if something has been given away for free its easy come easy go, but that lies with the breeder, he should place the dogs where he knows they will have a great permanent life, be that a pet home or working...That doesn't matter if the pups are free or a £1000. This is the problem we are now having with dogs, backyard breeders-puppy peddlars have jumped on to breeding dogs for the £££sign, thats why so much shit is about, and so many dogs being disregarded.People who are wanting a dog from good quality stock are struggling to get one, good breeders won't sell there stuff to any Tom,Dick & Harry. Well done to them is what i say They give it away to close friends who will hold the pup in question with respect. 1 Quote Link to post
burnie69 376
Same as it should be with the working terrier too, Quote Link to post
Endgame 68
SAD TRUTH IS THAT WHO CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THEY KNOW ENOUGH DOGMEN THAT WILL GIVE THEIR PUPS A HEALTHY START AS WORKING DOGS & GIVE THEM A FAIR CRACK?? THOUGH 2 BE HONEST IF SOMEONE HAS GAVE U A PUP WELL ITS COMMON DECENCY 2 GIVE THEM A PUP BACK & THAT AINT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING AS U ARE SIMPLY RETURNING THE FAVOUR. I AGREE THAT BUYING PUPS FOR HIGH PRICES COUNTS FOR LITTLE THOUGH. MONEY SHOULD NEVER BE A PRIME FACTOR IN BREEDING WORKING DOGS. 1 Quote Link to post

Endgame 68
LAST LITTER I BRED I HAD 2 DOG PUPS LEFT FOR SALE. FELT LIKE THE SAMARITANS AT THE END OF IT. I EVEN HAD A PHONE CALL AT 11.30pm FROM A MAN ASKING ME "WHAT A LURCHER WAS?" & HE WAS 1 OF THE MORE DECENT PHONE CALLS THAT I HAD 1 Quote Link to post
Guest AngelicAcid
I got a pup Given-(You know who you are ), Cant fault her, exactly what I or Anyone would expect From paying Top money for a dog. Quote Link to post
cooper101 86
ive just realised reading this i sound like i breed all the time!! i have only bred off 1 of my bitches and that was 4 years ago!! 4 were given to friends and i had 1 and there was 1 extra!!! as i'd given the pups to my friends ,i had a few people some of them knew, not me ,asking for the extra pup as if it was going free!! i asked them what they were going to use it for and they didnt have a clue what they were talking about apart from 1 bloke who i had heard of not for good reasons mind!! so i kept the pup back eventually it went to a family that lived near me (for free)!! i didnt think it right to let the pup go to people who would have used it as i 5 minute wonder and got bored as a puppy takes time to get into the field and more than likely sell it on!! they wouldnt have shown intrest if there was a decent price tag on it and thats why i belive you shouldnt give pups away for free!! Guest AngelicAcid
All depends if you respect the person who bred the pup, Then you would think first then take the dog, after consideration. That respect should make you keener(if thats the right word) To bring the pup up/on right than any amount of ££££££££££ SSS paid to any money maker. Also give it the best start as was intended by the person who was decent enough to give in the first place. Quote Link to post

cooper101 86
the best dogs are gifted. yes gifted to a friend or someone who you know will do good by the dog! gifting to a total stranger is not good in my opinion!! if they dont know you and the dogs for nothing they might just think its been given away as old crap and the first sighn of it not doing what they want they oust it!!! i belive you should charge a stranger as its not cheap to bring on puppies especially if you have given them to friends aswell!! you owe the stranger nothing so they might look after there investment if they pay for it!!!!
