listen mate its the right thing,iv lost three dogs in 15 years through fatal and some not so fatal accidents, these things happen, and in this game, all to often, considering your circumstances you ARE doing the right thing, difficult i know but get it done and move on,not being harsh, thats just how it is,id already be looking for another pup to bring on,some will no doubt disagree, jmo,i could not be without a lamping dog for love nor money and if your in this game for the long haul you will do the same, atvb to you pal chin up

I no mate its already cost me nearly 100 this morn then 300 2 400 to have it amputated or a plate is 900

and if its very bad it can go up to betwen 2 and 3 thousand i dont no if thats the price at all vets but thats what he told me and thats before cost of drugs

twenty years ago one of my dogs escaped from her kennel and the yard and was run over the result was the same amputation or put to sleep i thought then and i still do now that i made the right decision to put her to sleep.

She was a good dog and the thought of her watching her kennel mates go to work and her being stuck inside would be difficult for both of us to live with.

its a tough decision mate but its yours to make

A friend of mine faced the same dilemma on xmas eve, you should get the dog PTS asap mate, it really is the sensible option  on all fronts, the plate op comes with no guarentee at all, the amputation is not fair on the dog imho, its a hard descision to make and I don't envy you making it, get itt done and move on as others have said it happens in the working dog game, my thoughts are with you

I'm gutted for you mate. :(

My mooching buddy had the same sort of thing happen to him last year. Some young kid opened a gate to speak to the dog, and she ran into the road, got ran over and broke both her front legs. :(

The vet told him that she'd never work again due to the severity of the breaks, so it was either pay thousands out in ops for a lame pet dog, or have her PTS. It was the hardest thing he'd ever had to do, broke his heart, but 12 months on her replacement is starting to come into her own and has helped to ease the pain a bit.

I know it sounds a bit callous, but it's like riding a horse. You fall off, you get straight back in the saddle before the shock hits you and things tend to work out.

ATB whatever you decide.

I have to say that i agree with both of the above posts. it is the most heartbreaking thing to do ever.

You have to think about the dog.....i love my dog to bits and he is my life, but if he had to stop working altogether i would have to have him pts :( he will pass on one day anyway and it will be just as hard then.

Theses dogs are bred to work and it is what they live for. you will never find a replacement but the next one will be just as good in its own way.

I really hope things work out for you
