Sleeping Through

Recommended Posts

I really thought we were getting somewhere, Sedge was a nightmare for the first couple of nights (in his crate downstairs) then he seemed to sleep through till 5.30am. Now it's 4.00am most mornings and he's whinging and barking. I'm not getting up in the night to let him out for a pee, I think this is where I may be going wrong ? He's 10 weeks old and his crate is wet when I come down. Should I be setting the alarm for say every three hours, taking him out and putting him straight back in the crate? Then slowly over time extending the three hours to maybe two toilet trips etc. Should I be making sure he's knackered at bedtime ?

Cheers,

Dan

I set my dogs/pups up not to fail, i get up 3 times a night when they are youngsters, about 12, 3 & 6. Don't leave water down after 8 as mentioned, vigilance is the key and not letting any bad habits set in, after a few months you will be glad you have done it

im glad this topic has been posted i might be able to help.i had been having the same problem because the pup had been peeing in her crate without giving a cry or whimper i just put an old tea shirt in her crate for her to sleep on,however the prob continued i thought to myself is she ever going to be clean.then i had a brain wave so i took out the tea shirt and put in a nice thick blanket, bingo a result she has never wet in her crate since.moral of the story she was waking up and was feeling the cold resulting in her peeing in her bed.try her a couple of nights on a warm blanket mate might work

We were being got up at ungodly hours. I changed the last feed to be much later, like 10pm made sure he went out for the toilet just before I went to bed at midnight as well. It helped but he was still getting us up at 5:30-6:00.

What really changed it was after he'd had his jabs and was allowed out. Once he'd been getting loads of excercise in the local park it was miles better. Now at the age of only 4 1/2 months he doesn't get us up rather we get him up in the week and on sat/sunday he wakes us at around 7:00 to 7:30 which is ok.
