airgunner106 0
Hi everyone. Today i went out to see my ferrets handled them and gave them some rabbit and then suddenly my hob ferret grabbed my jill in the back of the neck. now I KNOW this isnt much to worry about as it can be playing but she was hissing and trying to back off. Then as she bacled off she fell down the hutch stair and he grabbed her as she fell by the throat and she was squiling and moving franticly. he finally let go of her but then procided to bite and drag her even though she was hissing and giving all the pissed off signs. When he stopped i took her out and brought her inside to check she was ok and then put her back. He continued to do the same. When she could finally get away she is now sitting at the far top corner of the hutch/run furthest away form him. Is she staying away from him? Thanks guys really worried. simonrob 4
How old are your ferrets. it could be that she is coming into season or he is in rut. what you have described is how the hob treats the jill when he wants to mate with her (very Rough) atb Simon Quote Link to post
moses 5
They need seperating she is obviosly not ready to mate and he quite blatently wants to so keep them seperate untill he comes out of rut unless you want to breed then keep them seperate untill she is ready. Quote Link to post
airgunner106 0
Both of my ferrets had been nuterd or snipped whatever you want to call it. He was just hurting her and she has been trying to keep away from him this whole time. Quote Link to post
airgunner106 0
Should i take him back to the rescue and get another jill? Quote Link to post
ace32 4
if he has been neutered he will still do ,or try to to do the job on the jill, which is what he is up to now, only way to go is seperate them till the jill is in season then pop em back together,it looks rough ,but its what they do,ok,ian Quote Link to post
johnrthrfrd 223
its only ferret foreplay spring is in the air Quote Link to post
airgunner106 0
Could i leave them toghether havent got another place for the jill? And how do you know if the jill is in season? Quote Link to post
theferreter 311
it sounds to me like hes ready to breed and she isnt airgunner think you have a lot to learn if you dont no when your jills in season Quote Link to post
simonrob 4
If she has been snipped then she wont come into season so you wont have to worry about that. Quote Link to post
moses 5
well if they have both been snipped then she will not come in to season so he will just contonuously try to mate her with no outcome the answer SIMPLE seperate them.... your only option unless you wiah the jill to get a good battering everyday for the next 2-3 months Quote Link to post
airgunner106 0
I think i might give him back to the rescue and get myself another jill. Sound good? Airgunner106. P.S dont want to feel harsh but im going to work my ferrets when the seasons back and i will only work my jill so he will be bored. Best for him to go to another home where he will be better off. airgunner106 0
When i get 2 jills and theve both been neutured i will need to get them jill jabbed if they come in season? Edited March 3, 2010 by airgunner106 Quote Link to post
lorelei0922 2
if your jills have been spayed they will no longer come into season at all.. no jabs required.. as to your current problem.... you said he was snipped. or whatever.... have a look... does he have testes? if so.. he's either vasectomised or NOT done at all... either way he will be wanting to mate.. even though she isn't ready and to be honest neither are YOU! if he doesn't have any bits at all... he's been castrated... and will no longer show the urges to mate... in that case He's just being mean... give them a little time... you haven't said how long you've had them together.. did they live together at rescue? If its a case of the latter and he's just not getting on with her... contact your rescue... return the hob and take the jill with you... let HER pick a new friend... easiest way to introduce them and if you used any half decent rescue .. they'll agree to let you bring your jill along good luck! airgunner106 0
Hi thanks for the reply. My ferrets have been with each other since june-july(09). My hob has been castrated. I wasnt ready for this to happen as the rescue didnt tell me but i should of researched it. If he continues to do this then i will take him back to RSPCA and get another jill. (Work them next season). Quote Link to post
