make ya decoys work better for you

Recommended Posts

take a UV pen and put 3 1/2 inch lines, ( the ones that u see under that black light, for marking stuff up incase it gets nicked )

put 1 around its neck

and 2 on its back going from one side to the other ie left to right not from head to tail

i tryed this after i was told they see in UV ( hence how they see other woodies in trees when they are deep inside it ) and GOD DAME! dos it work well works 500% better than with out the UV pen..

give it a try :p

happy hunting

hey lindsay , u can find them in any WHS, or Halfords, they are also called data dot pens, they are mainly used for marking information on motorbike frames, or car subframes, or any house hold item inorder to identafi items if stolen.

they show up when you put black light ( UV ) light over it. ( like in the film Gone in 60 seconds ) they use the pens and black light to hide the list of cars to nick .. haha

Look for UV pens or Data dot pens..

" do you mean wing tip to wing tip "

Well depends on the decoys you have.. i use cheap £3 decoys with wings closed and wire for legs so they look like they are feeding on the ground with a wind they rock back and too look good and very cheap, also u can use the wire feet to fix they on free branchs about ya head :p..

i mark them around the base of the neck, and across the back and half way down the wing..

if you have flappers or decoys with open wings then i would put one at the base of the neck, one along each wing at the frunt then across the back and also the tips of the tail fethers..

just to add some markings but dont go crazy and cover it in UV lol ..

if u wanna put wire legs in em.. i use kids plasticine about the size of 1/2 a tenis ball then use THICK wire used to train bonsi trees ( can find in any garden centor )

make a loop in the wire about the size of 2 pence piece for each leg bend just below the loop and push in the plastcine and stick in the ground :p i find about 4-6 inch of the ground works well..

i also use this one.. but this one i push wire in the bottom and used 2 part apoxie resine to fix it in place ie, use the same think wire cut to around 10 inch long make a 90 degree bend around 1 inch long make a hole just big enuff to get the wire in and glue with apoxie both inside and out ( get a good lot inside ) the make it look like its feeding on the ground i use both types at the same time

on both decoys u can see teh white ring around the neck ( cover it in UV pen ) and the white parts on the wings, then mark across the back :p

hope that helps you..

should have taken my cam with me befor lol .. nexted time i go ill take some pics of what they look like..

p.s if u wanna use them as roosting decoys i use the full body ones only fixed to the trees with the wire,
