Edd_Wiltshire 9
Hi, Was thinking about the ban on dogs running hares. Would anyone run their dogs on hares if the dogs were muzzled? Indeed this is a little harsh on the dogs but if it were the only way to run them legally on hares would many people take it up. One way of testing the dogs out and keeping hare numbers up? Just a thought. Edd Quote Link to post
artic 595
Talking of hare numbers, where i live there seems to be no change in numbers. Yesterday i counted 20 hares or so whilst out walking. As for the muzzle, i would rather not, if we are going to bring the tradition back then it must be come back as we left it. Quote Link to post

NOOK/ANNA 96
Couldn't see it catching on. You'd just be running your dog to the point of exhaustion an the hare to. If your dog can't catch it then there's no point running it in my mind. Edited March 3, 2010 by NOOK/ANNA Quote Link to post
mossyh07 64
The people who are in it for the course would.. The people in it for the kill wouldn't Quote Link to post
Edd_Wiltshire 9
Indeed, there are thousands of dogs who lure course each month and they don’t say f*ck it. That lure is prey to them either way. It was just a thought really. Cant see the hunting with dogs ban ever being overturned so was just thinking out loud. Dangerous I know! Quote Link to post

Edd Surely this would cause as much suffering to the hare if not MORE than being caught as it would be bumped and knocked about but not be killed at the end of it?? it would never be allowed. Also how many dogs would just keep going, they stop the course when they have caught the hare but being muzzled obviously wouldn't be able to catch it so would just keep running it until the point of exhaustion. MR BROOK 165
I thought the whole point was to run dog againts hare a battle of skill's.the trouble is if the hare cant get away then you would be running your dog to the point where it would clappest or worse. So i think this is more curel then running a dog with out. Quote Link to post

waidmann 105
the law would only allow you to"distress" an animal "with reasonable cause" this being managment or for food, neityher would be given if the dog were muzzled. waidmann Quote Link to post
