shoughton 0
I am about to purchase a CZ .22LR and will be using the rifle predominantly for rabbit/hare control, with the majority of shots being between 20 and 100 yards max. I fancy a new scope and was looking to find a used Schmidt & Bender 6X42 - but then having found one the guy selling it suggested that really it was probably over the top and not even the best for what I want. He suggested that the reticule would be too heavy and although they were fantastic scopes it was intended for much heavier rifles and game. It has been suggested to me to look at Leupold, Hawke, Bushnell or Nikko Stirling scopes. I'm just not sure where to look now! My preference is to go for the highest optical quality I can afford and I like the prospect of the lifetime warranty of the Leupold. I note that Leupold also offer a fine duplex reticule on the VXII scopes. I'm not even sure I want to be fussed with a variable mag or indeed the need to refocus on targets. My budget will be around £350 tops for a new or used scope. Any comments/suggestions/tips/bewares are very welcome! Thanks, Steve Quote Link to post

Treacle Trackpad 6
...the more you can send on a scope the better... I would agree with this for CF but a .22 rimmy doesn't 'need' a super scope on it. It's nice to have the good kit and a SB 6x42 would be fine IMO but deffo overkill. A cheap Hawke or WTC is more than enough for .22LR Quote Link to post
langouroux 14
I have an AGS 3-9x40 illumiunated, awesome in the lamp excellent and day time. can't fault it mate. i have a mate who spent £200 on his .22LR scope and then used mine...no difference at all! dont forgot to buy a trigger kit for it from rimfire magic....its a different gun with one of them mate! a couple of other points i would also make are that if i was to buy a .22LR i would buy second hand, as its much better value for money. I bought my .22 new and looking back i could have got my stalking rifle so much sooner if i hand bought second hand. If you are planning on getting in to stalking or foxing then you would be better off saving your cash and spending more on a new centre fire in the future than blowing loads on a .22LR. IMHO. andy s410c 61
As previously posted you don't need to spend a fortune on a scope for a .22 rimmy.A scope in the sub £100 bracket will do the job.A Hawke 3-9x50 was fine for me but i managed to get my hands on a mint 3.5-10X50 Simmons WTC which is a better optical quality scope. Have a look around & see what you can pick up second hand for a good price Quote Link to post

shoughton 0
Thanks all for the replies. In the end I purchased a new Leupold 6x42. Got it for £250 which was a bargain - and the scope is fantastic! Steve Quote Link to post
