no quickset basket

don't like the idea of carrying a quickset basket around as most of the places i go ferreting i have to climb fences or go through trees and bushies. what would be the alternative and where can i buy. thanksthumbs.gif

There is no real viable alterative to the Basket for a pre set system.

The problem with long netting is that you cannot have it both ways. Each of the two mains ways of setting a net have their drawbacks. Apart from the lack of veristility of the pre-set net the main drawback is the basket that you have to lug around with you. That said, a 50 yard net is the same volume and weighs roughly the same weight, no matter what system you use.

Each system has it's pluses and minuses it's up to you to decide what system suits you. But, without trying both you will never know.

i have a 25yd longnet and use a gamebag with the mesh cut off the front so that the net does not catch, to keep the shape of the game bag i put a bucket in the bag. this works well for me and is very quick to set up, all i can say is give it a try

I have used different ways of carrying Long Nets and in my opinion, the basket is hard to beat where a quick set is concerned for ferreting. Unless you actually want to use a traditional net, I would at least try a basket and you may well surprise yourself. I have always found them light and easy to manage. To use a Traditional net and carry it in a bucket...In a game bag along with poles would seem to me to be a quickset basket in a roundabout way anyway....Why buy a bag, and push a bucket into it and risk it falling out, snagging and being a nuisance, when a basket is just is light...

If your worried about it spilling and moving around when your slinging it over fences and pulling it through hedges, It can be secured very well with the help of a bungey cord or a bit of rope, and theres no risk of it going anywhere.

Failing all that.....You can just pull it together, tie it, and throw it over your shoulder, As it is used by its creator...

The pics you have seen are purely to show the princple of the Basket however that net

easily held 2X50yard nets + 18x11mm poles

The net was replaced with a smaller meshed net due to the mesh being to large

The actual frame does not dictate the amount of longnet you use other than being strong enough

for the weight it only makes it easier to drop and recover the nets

The actual size of the net attached to the frame and of course your strength

dictates the length of net used
